All players must adhere to the Laws of the Game (LOTG).  Please see the links  to the relevant documents for each age group.

LENGTH OF GAMES

Juniors

  • U6 and U7 - 20 minutes each way

  • U8 and U9  - 20 minutes each way

  • U10  - 25 minutes each way

  • U11  - 25 minutes each way

 

Youth

  • U12 – 25 minutes each way

  • U13 and U14  - 30 minutes each way

  • U14 Girls  - 30 minutes each way

  • U15 and U16  - 35 minutes each way

  • U16 Girls  - 35 minutes each way

 

Seniors

U18, Premier League, Amateur League and Open -  45 minutes each way.

A break of five minutes is allowed between the halves of all games. In the event of games starting late the referees have the power to shorten the length of the games to ensure that they finish on schedule.

FOOTBALLS

Each team will be given a match ball and training balls. The match ball must be taken to every game – the referee will decide which ball is to be used.

Sizes:

  • U6 to U8 Size 3 56-58cm circumference

  • U9 to U13 Size 4 62-65cm circumference

  • U14 to U18 Size 5 67-70cm circumference

  • Premier League Size 5

  • Amateur League Size 5

  • Open Ladies Size 5

Summary of Playing Rule Changes for 2019

​

Playing Rule Change #1

U9-U21 players - no more than 3 players registered in any one competition team may register with another club in the following season in the same team. U9-U21 players - no more than 4 players registered in the 1 age group with a Club in any one season may register with a different club the following season as players in the same team. Playing Rule Change - #2

AL2  and AL2R squad will now play as separate teams, ie no longer a squad. For further information please see MWFA Playing Rules – B13

 

Playing Rule Change - #3

Various changes to the borrowing rules for AL divisions from the O35 and O45s. Please see the MWFA Playing Rules – D6 (3).ii.(b)

 

Teams in Men’s Open competitions may borrow players registered in O35 competiitons provided that such players are registered in the same or a lower division than the borrowing team’s division in the Open Competition.

 

Additionally, to cater for years when there are less O35 divisions than Open Competitions any AL division may borrow from O35-5 and below.

 

Teams in Open Competitions may borrow from O45 Competitions as follows:

·       Al2 division and above may borrow from O45-1

·       AL-4 division and above may borrow from O45-2

·       Any AL division may borrow from O45-2 and below

 

Teams in Women’s Open Competitions may borrow from WO30 competition as follows:

 

Where there are two O30 divisions

·       WAL3 and above may borrow from any WO30

·       WAL4 and below may only borrow from WO30-2

 

Where there are three O30 divisions

·       WAL2 and above may borrow from any WO30

·       WAL3 may borrow from WO30-2 and WO30-3

·       WAL4 and below may borrow from WO30-3

 

Playing Rule Change - #4

All single AL competitions will now be rostered to play rounds on a Friday night (as well as the 18/1 and 2 divisions of O35/O45s).

 

 

Important Rule Change for 2019 - #5

Sin Bin Rule for Y2 - dissent by word or action. All competition games from U12 and above are now subject to this Y2/Sin Bin Rule - 10mins in the Sin Bin for any dissent by word or action. Player must leave the field immediately, cannot be replaced, must remain in the technical area and will be allowed back on the field after 10mins with the referee's permission. The 10mins starts when play resumes

Women’s O35 will now by WO30s plus a WO40s competition will be available if 6 or more teams nominate

 

Important Rule Change for 2019 - #7

All appeals against a decision or determination of any committee other than the Judiciary must be lodged within the current football season.

 

Playing Rule Change - #8 

Any appeal against a PGC decision is to be directed t the MWFA Appeals Committee.

 

Playing Rule Change - #9

Once a Graded Player (previous representative players) are registered with an MWFA Club the players may not be deregistered in order to transfer to another MWFA club without the permission of the EC. A Player may be deregistered if he/she ceases playing in the MWFA competition but will remain  the MWFA Club’s Graded Player list for the remainder of the current season. Graded players may be not be moved to a different MWFA competition within the club to br replaced by another Graded Player during the current season.

 

Playing Rule Change - #10

Playing Rule 6.12(f)

Any player who accumulates a further 2 official cautions (after having received 4 yellows and served a 1 week suspension) making a total of 6 shall be suspended for a further 2 fixtures and the player’s team shall be penalised 2 disciplinary points.

Any player who accumulates a further 2 official cautions making a total of 8 shall be suspended for a further 3 fixtures and the player’s team shall be penalised 3 disciplinary points. The player shall also be called to appear before the Judiciary Committee who may apply a further penalty, bond, fine or suspension.

Any player who accumulates more than 8 cautions shall be called to appear before the Judiciary Committee who may apply a further penalty, bond, fine or suspension or team disciplinary points for each official caution given to the player thereafter.

 

Playing Rule Change - #11

Players who have not played 4 games for their registered team but have played 4 or more games for other teams are NOT eligible to play in the semi-finals, finals, pennant or round-robin competitions for their registered team.
