Saturday 24 April 2010
Under 6
Wyatt Avenue, Belrose
Beacon Hill Bears v Wakehurst Seals

This week we came up against some much tougher opponents who scored like a well oiled machine, but we put up a good fight.

Xander and Coire led the way in attack and Bailey was staunch in defence.
We need to try to concentrate on tackling the opposition and not each other!

Player of the match went to Xander for his outstanding work in attack.

Well done team.

Under 6
Wyatt Avenue, Belrose
Beacon Hill Jackals v Wakehurst Swordfish

The Jackals had a great game this week with all players showing great improvement.

Goal scorers were William and Hamish and apologies for not mentioning Hamish for last week's goal also.

There were a lot of great tackles from the Jackals and it was unfortunate Matthew got slide tackled only 2 metres from the goals after a great run down the full length of the field. William chased the ball all day and Hamish and Nathan had some great big kicks.

Players of the week went to William and Jayden and they both took home a trophy for their efforts.

The Tigers had another excellent game, against Seaforth Condors, with a high level of passing and some wonderful goals.

Bradley was player of the week for a superb lobbed goal and Sam got the encouragement award for his great tackling and determination. Well done too to Ethan who played his first game for the Tigers.

Everyone who watched seems to be commenting on the boys improving passing ability, so keep it up lads and Go Tigers!

Under 9
Tristram Road, Beacon Hill
Beacon Hill Storm 2 Manly Vale Vultures 6

As the second game of the season, this was a very exciting match to watch.
Every player in the U9 Storm was hungry for the ball and gave 110%.

Player of the match went to Ferdi after he scored the Storm's two goals. Jeremy dutifully earned the encouragement award for playing hard, especially in defence. Ronan also shone in defence but every player deserves a mention because it was a standout game.

Josh and Cooper worked very hard in goals and saved numerous goals each. Cooper also had some great runs and a fantastic shot at goal. Reece and Daniel gave it all as strikers and kept up the pressure for the entire match.

Oscar, Francis, Filip and Ben seemed to have boundless energy and all got some good play and some good runs in the game. Francis also showed us some fancy footwork.

Keep up the good work boys. We love watching your games.

Lionel Watts, Frenchs Forest
U6
Beacon Hill Jackals v Wakehurst Seals

The U6 Jackals had a great start to the season with all players in attendance for their first big game against the Seals.

Goal scorers were Samuel Heinz (2), Matthew Lee (1) and Isabella Thompson (1).

Whilst still getting the hang of the game all players put in a fantastic effort against the almighty Seals – but soccer was the winner on the day.

A big congratulations also to Oliver Benson Sparks who won the encouragement award and was the first recipient of the Trophy for Jackals player of the week.

Lionel Watts, Frenchs Forest
U6
Beacon Hill v Jaguars v Wakehurst Pelicans

The season opener saw the opposing Pelicans team get off to a flier as the Jaguars struggled to incite their match day concentration.

However, five minutes into the match, impact player Dylan was brought on to great effect scoring a couple of goals in as many minutes and effectively turning the tide on the game.

Only the players know what words of wisdom Coach Ivan conveyed at half time, but the mighty Jaguars came out roaring after the break and the Pelicans well and truly got their feathers ruffled as the Jaguars hit their stride.

Every one of the Beacon Hill boys played their part in a fantastic game.

Thanks to all players, parents, coaches and refs for such an enthusiastic start to the season.

Despite a brave effort by both of the Beacon Hill sides, they were unfortunately, well and truly beaten.

Good try Beacon Hill Sharks and better luck next time.

Careel Bay, North Avalon
U7
Beacon Hill v Brumbies v Avalon Kelpies

Well the parents of the Beacon Hill Brumbies Under 7's were treated to a spectacle of soccer skills today in North Avalon against the Avalon Kelpies.

A special congratulations to William Hickey, Jordan Koops and Zach Luciani who played their first games. Most impressive was the running into open spaces and passing by both teams.

Plenty of goals were scored and all players wore a bright smile, especially when the snakes came out after the game.

Everyone played well and made a contribution.
Player of the match went to Jordan Koops who was most excited!

Saturday 17 April 2010
Boondah Reserve, North Narrabeen
U7
Beacon Hill Tigers v Narrabeen Barracudas

The Tigers started the season in fine form against the Narrabeen Barracudas.

The lads had obviously listened at training and were passing the ball to each other really well. Their great passing and moving created lots of goals for both the Tigers teams.

They tackled cleanly all game and made sure they spread out to create lots of space. Erik and Shohei, who were playing their first games for the Tigers, slotted in really well and both tackled and passed excellently.

Well done to Corey who was player of the week.
Well done lads and keep up the good passing and tackling.

Beverly Job, Narraweena
U8
Beacon Hill Bullants v BTH Eagles

The Bullants started the season off well at Beverly Job on the weekend with a 5 – 0 win against the BTH Eagles.

Josh McManus scored the first goal of the game in the 3rd minute of play and then backed up with his 2nd goal in the 15th minute of the match.

Strong defence by Jackson and Thomas didn't give the Eagles a chance to get a shot at goals in the 1st half. Man of the Match player Ben got 2 outstanding goals in the 2nd half. Jackson got a thrilling goal to increase the margin to 5 – 0.

Special mention to Conor for his outstanding saves in goals during the 2nd half. Jacob for his constant hard work in midfield, Tully for his fantastic attempts at goals in the 2nd half and Jordan and Declan for their excellent team work.

A great effort by all the girls!

The score doesn't accurately reflect how well the girls played, particularly, since half the team had never played before!

Beacon Hill Hurricanes V Avalon Great Whites

U9 Red - Beacon Hill Hurricanes V Avalon Great Whites

It was a glorious Saturday morning when the U9 Hurricanes took to the field.

From the start it was clear this would be a close match with both teams attacking and defending well.

Avalon scored first but Jimmy was quick to equalise.

At half time the score was 1-1. Fantastic goal keeping by Jake!

The second half saw some changes to the field. Excellent passing by Darcy, Blake and Harry kept the ball moving to the front with James controlling the defence and Joshua strong and solid in goals. Wes kept his eye on the ball and the goal posts, scoring to put us ahead 2-1.

Avalon kept coming, scoring to level 2-2. It was anyone's game, but the Hurricanes kept driving forward. A brilliant cross-field kick by Jarrod set up the winning goal by Daniel. The boys were jubilant!

Congratulations boys – your teamwork and sportsmanship was outstanding.
Final score 3-2 to the Hurricanes!

Saturday 17 April 2010
Tristram Road, Beacon Hill
U9 Blue
Beacon Hill Tornadoes v CC Strikers

If memory serves, it was the great Dutch football side of the 1970's that reinvigorated the sport in Europe with the concept of Totaalvoetbal or Total Football. Pioneered at Ajax from a game plan reputedly developed at Leicester City in the 1960's, Total Football had players swapping in and out of roles as the game progressed in order to counteract the man marking and Catenaccio (locked door) style employed by many sides of the time. The great Johan Cruijff, nominally a forward, would migrate into the midfield and defence with colleagues drifting into the positions that he had vacated. Germany, too, employed the equally great Franz Beckenbauer as an attacking sweeper.

And so it was in week one for the Tornadoes and under instruction from Coach Wayne "Soccer - the beautiful game" is alive. In short a very impressive start. 5 - 0.

Some Tornadoes found themselves in unfamiliar roles for parts of the game but this did not detract from the 'system' of Coach Wayne. The opening crack from Lucas playing left wing with a right foot in the 2nd minute had the mums and dads murmuring with delight. 1 - 0 Tornadoes...

The 2nd goal saw some impressive build up from the back half allowing Max at striker to force one past the keeper. A nice team goal this one with possession flowing through the team. The half continued with the Tornadoes constantly pressuring in the attacking half leaving not a lot for Joel in goalie to do but certainly effective when required.

After oranges we were running down hill and midfielder Ben began to carve them up. Dominating possession and scoring a lovely individual goal after fielding the ball on his chest to his own advantage and hitting one crisply past the keeper. 3 - 0 Tornadoes.

Coach Wayne continued rotating players to ensure game time for all and the system did not abate. The fourth goal was a fine team effort moving effortlessly down the right wing before a lovely cross to the striker who 'one touched' past the keeper. A late crack from Ben saw the score finish at 5 - 0.

Scorers Lucas 1, Max 2, Ben 2.

We could have scored another few with Josh, Hannah and Eric all having opportunities through their own skill and assistance from the likes of Jordan, Tom, Zack, Peter and Joel.

Well done Tornadoes.
