Women's Premier League
Melwood Oval, Forestville
Beacon Hill v Forest Killarney
First Grade: Loss 1-4
Reserve Grade: Win 6-1
Our last encounter against Forest was in Round 2 where both our grades were successful so we expected Forest to come out firing. This was always going to be a tough ask for us today as we were down 12 players from the squad and many thanks to Stephanie from the Under 16's for helping out the Reserve Grade.
The First Grade score was not a true representation of the game as Forest went out to a 2 – 0 lead but once we started to find our formations and put our passing together we scored and started to gain the momentum.
Unfortunately one of our players was injured which required an ambulance and when we recommenced play, we were slower out of the blocks than Forest who scored. We pressed their line with extra strikers and against the run of play Forest broke away and scored again.
Although we didn't come away with the two points we once again showed some good team skills and great work rates from Jess W and Mallory and great goalkeeping from Brianna.
Our Reserve Grade team worked hard in the first half and skipped away to a 2 – 0 lead only for Forest to be allowed back in due to a direct penalty.
The second half saw the team cut loose with some brilliant football and net another four.
A great team effort with special mention to Monique and Kathy for their distribution, fine finishing from Claire and Simone and sound defense from Aimee, Emily and Cheree.

U13 Division 1
Millers Reserve, Manly Vale
Beacon Hill 2 v Wakehurst 1
Today's win against Wakehurst will be remembered as one of the best if not the best match ever played by this team. We started against the undefeated top placed team with 9 players. We lined up on the downwind and downhill side of Millers 1 for the first half. Mel played when she was unwell, Logan and Abbey both played while injured. Under constant pressure from Wakehurst we held out until Georgia arrived from div 2 like the cavalry to take her place in midfield 10 minutes in.
We defend grimly, tackle after tackle, clearance after clearance. Melissa going hammer and tong down the sideline against their speedy and skilled right winger. Rebecca and Logan at the back continually making that last effort, that last foot on the ball to stop the shot. Rebecca makes some big clearances. Finally we broke down and Wakehurst get the goal. Still against the odds the girls do not falter or give up. Ashley was inspirational at left mid taking on 2 players at once and winning the ball. Eventually a clearance to Emily just over the half way line. She beats one gets in the clear, the ball is bouncing around after a failed attempt at tackle and a snap shot from 25 metres out. It sails high and long. It is in under the cross bar and in the back of the net. WOW! An outstanding strike and we are 1 – 1. Play recommences and we are under pressure again. I move Emily back to a holding midfield with Georgia. Hannah and Abbey work really hard in long chases to keep the pressure on their defence and give our backs a breather. Mel backs up again in support making the tackles at right mid. Wakehurst pile on the pressure again. Some neat combination play gets them through our defence and a shot on target is pushed aside by Anastasia in goal stretching hard with the feet to save us once more. 14 v 10 is hard work and we welcome the break for half time. I tell the girls how proud I am of their efforts today and no matter what happens dig in and keep trying.
The second half commences with Mel who worked hard in the first half on the right feeling unwell and taking the gloves from Anastasia. For the first 10 mins of the second half we have a fairly even run of the play, getting down their end and putting some pressure on. Hannah gets down the right wing continuously troubling their backs who are looking shaky. A pass to Emily on the edge of the box and Emily has no choice but shoot from the corner of the box or take on 2 defenders. She shoots high and long for the far corner and again it is over the keepers head and in. What a strike. Emily is 2 goals for 2 chances. We are up 2 – 1 against a team who have only conceded one goal so far. The roar from the Beacon supporters shakes the ears. The girls are screaming with delight. Wakehurst can't believe it. Their coach is fuming and getting frustrated.
We start once again and I make the call to man mark their centre mid and chief playmaker. Anastasia does the job and sticks to her like glue. Anastasia takes her out of the game. The girls know they are ahead and we have to defend and hold out for the whistle. With 15 minutes to go we are looking really tired. But still Logan and Rebecca lead the way. Marking up tight, getting goal side, making the calls to marshall their troops. Hitting the attackers as they receive the ball. Making sure no player is unmarked. Ashley and Melissa are still under pressure from some good distribution and through balls but still they tackle and hussle. Melissa blocks shot after shot, Mel cleans up when the balls get through. I am marking the countdown for the girls, there is 10 mins to go. Use up the time, kick it out. 14 is free someone take her. Abbey makes a long chase to give the backs a breather. Everyone is back except for Abbey holding them on the edge of the box. The girls learn more in 30 mins about defending a lead then I could teach them in 2 years. Emily, Hannah and Georgia make tackle after tackle in midfield. Clearing and using up the time. There is 5 to go. We clear some corners, more goal kicks. We mark up goal side. I give the message Logan shouts out there is 2 minutes to go. The ref is looking at his watch. We make it, Victorious an INCREDIBLE effort and a win. All the parents and supporters are hurrying onto the field to congratulate the girls. Guy is running onto the field fists clenched in triumph and on the day we are the "Best of the Best and the best are us a roo roo roo".

Ladies Over 35 Division 3
Melwood Ave, Forestville
Beacon Hill A 1 v BTH Raiders A 2
Despite the chilly temperature there was plenty of excitement in the opening minutes of the match, culminating in a goal being scored by Lisa Thompson in the first 10 minutes. This was followed up by several other attempts at goal. Strong defence by Beacon Hill throughout the first half of the match ensured that most of the play was in BTH's half.
The second half of the match saw a continuation of the strong defence by Beacon Hill with again most of the play in BTH's half. This meant that Di, goal keeper, had a quieter game, however, as usual she performed brilliantly when required.
A great warm up ensured that, despite the freezing temperature, no injuries were sustained - thanks Eric.

Ladies Over 35 Division 2
David Thomas Reserve, Manly Vale
Beacon Hill 3 v Manly Vale 0
This game produced our best soccer of the season and a well deserved and hard fought win against a very physical team. Coach Chris was delighted to see us taking time on the ball to look for suitable passes and working hard to be first to the ball.
With Lisa H away for the weekend, Di and Debra sick and Jan succumbing to injury early in the game we were down to one sub and missing three regular defenders. The very versatile Mary moved from her usual midfield role to play in defence and was rock solid. Regular defenders Julie and Rosemary were outstanding as was super sweeper Danielle. They left Lisa P with little to do in goals however she was flawless whenever called into action.
Regular midfielders Noeline, Tracey D, Tracey C and Maz were all on song today. Tracey C was delighted to score her 2nd goal of the season less than two minutes into the game with a strong finish after a fantastic series of passes from her team mates. Linda also had a strong game, playing in a variety of positions as required.
Striker Kerry was really being hammered by the opposition today and was taken out several times, however was rewarded with a goal late in the first half. Jodie sealed the win just 5 minutes before the full time whistle with another fine goal.
We certainly played the full 90 minutes today. With eight wins in a row we sit comfortably in 2nd place on the ladder, just one point behind leaders Wakehurst A who we meet again in two weeks after a narrow 1-2 loss in week 1.

Ladies Over 35 Division 3
Tristram Road, Beacon Hill
Beacon Hill 2 v Manly Allambie 1
The match started off slowly, with the pitch feeling a bit sluggish and flat, but the game soon picked up when Manly Allambie scored the first goal 20 minutes into the first half. Diane performed some almost super human saves in goal, and there was some fantastic dribbling and passing from the mid-fielders.
The second half was far more exciting and fast paced, with Lisa scoring a sensational goal, followed shortly afterwards by an equally impressive goal by Kerry. Despite Manly Allambie's best efforts, they couldn't catch up, making Beacon Hill the victors on this occasion.

Women's Premier League
Cromer Park
Beacon Hill v Avalon
First Grade: Win 5 -1
Reserve Grade: Draw 2 -2
After a strong performance against Brookvale we were now geared up for a tough encounter against Avalon who were also eager to show that they too can play a good brand of football.
Our First grade team took the game to Avalon and basically never let them into the game. This was a true example of what this team is capable of and gave us something to benchmark against for the rest of this season and to build on for next year.
Special mention to Kelly and Piper for their initiative on the park and to Kara for some excellent skills in bagging two goals.
Our Reserve Grade team dominated the game for long periods of time and were denied on many occasions by the Avalon No1 who was outstanding in goals and was kept very busy for the entire game.
We worked hard all around the pitch and in the end had to settle for a draw but in the end, great learning for us. Nice to see Janelle have a solid run on the field.

Ladies Over 35 Division 3 A
Passmore Reserve, Manly Vale
Beacon Hill A 2 v Beacon Hill B 2
It was a challenge to back up for our second game in 2 days however after an initial unsettled period in the first 15 minutes we came together and passed the ball with more confidence.
Lisa Thompson was brilliant on the wing and with her pace, strong kicks and great positioning was rewarded with a goal and contributing to another after a deflection off one of her kicks by the keeper.
Despite the strength of Maria in the midfield, demonstrating a perfect header and the brilliance of Di in goals, our opposition evened the score. Kerry Zappia led the defence and was as solid as always assisted flawlessly by Kerry L.
A great game by everyone and a most enjoyable Monday afternoon. Thanks so much to Rob and Steve for feeding everyone at Passmore Reserve and to Eric and Vince for their continued guidance.

Women's Premier League
Beacon Hill Oval
Beacon Hill v Brookvale
First Grade: Loss 2-0
Reserve Grade: Won 4-2
After many weeks off washed out weekends we finally got back on the pitch to start the second half of the competition and up came up against a very spirited Brookvale outfit who have been travelling well so this was a real opportunity to see how far we had improved as a squad during the year.
The First grade game was a fairly even event and we were well in the game at the halftime mark, only being down by one goal but when Brookvale scored their second goal from a penalty for a so called 'back pass' we started to lose our momentum but to the teams credit we kept on fighting and challenging to the end.
Our Reserve Grade team performed very well as the first round game against Brookvale went well in their favour but our second round clash saw our young Beacon Hill team turn the tables and score another nice win.
Well done to our Beacon Hill Ladies as we showed a vast improvement with some nice football. Keep up the great work.
