Saturday 22nd May 2010
U15 Division 3
Tristram Road, Beacon Hill
Beacon Hill 7 v Seaforth 1

A great win in atrocious slippery conditions against a feisty but under strength Seaforth outfit.

We outplayed them using our numerical advantage and created many good chances which could have resulted in a much higher score.

Dennis opened the scoring and was unlucky not to get more. Good finishing up front by our new recruit, Pat, producing a phenomenal 5 goal haul (2 in the 1st half & 3 in the 2nd), which included some spectacular goals. A well taken free kick by Josh added to the goals in the first half. (Half-time 4:1)

A special mention to Scott, who made some courageous saves in the quagmire, then almost scored himself in his brief spell up front. Overall a good team effort. Well done.

Saturday 22nd May 2010
U16 Division 2
Beacon Hill Oval
Beacon Hill 2 v Forest Killarney 1

This week saw Beacon Hill play Forest Killarney at home. Being an 8:30 game enabled us to get the first half completed before the rain set in. It was great to see Josh Carlson return this week following a wrist injury, which has kept him off the field to date.

Beacon Hill played some excellent football in the first half to see us go to the break 2 – 0 up thanks to a goal from Scott and a cracking goal from Matthew, which would not have been out place in Premier League (watch out Rosco).

The second half saw the rain set in and the play by Beacon Hill was generally less inspiring, other than some terrific solo runs from Aiden. Generally the style of play began to resemble that of our opposition and resulted in a disappointing second half that netted a full time score of 2 – 1 in favour of Beacon Hill.

U12 Division 3
Boondah, Warriewood
Beacon Hill 2 v Pittwater RSL 1

Well, where do you start? The Beacon Hill boys were playing the undefeated Pittwater RSL. With some players carrying injuries and team sickness through the week who knew what to expect with the likeness of not having a full team.

From the whistle the whole Beacons team looked really switched on and keen to show Pittwater that they can be beaten. The play was all over the park with scoring opportunities for both teams and great defence from Beacons. This was the sort of game that a single goal was likely to win the game for either side. Score at half time was nil all, with Beacons having the better of the play with all the team playing top class footy. The team would like to thank Lewis from U12/4, who played the 1st half and played solidly in the midfield, before going and playing for his team.

After a rousing half time talk from coach Damian, pointing out the game was Beacons if they wanted it, the boys continued their awesome teamwork. Two second half goals by Callum down the right flank shell shocked the opposition. Both goals were scored after sensational teamwork from goalie through to the forwards. Towards the end of game as the Beacon boys were noticeably tiring, Pittwater scored a goal, but the Beacon defence was determined that they would get no more with great scrapping in defence. Fulltime score was 2-1 win to Beacon. Every player deserves mention in their best team performance of the season so far; keep up the teamwork boys, as it gives the results.

Player of the Week went to the whole team, as they played as a team and stayed committed for the entire game. Special mention of Matthew in playing sweeper covering more park than in any other game to help stop the Pittwater forward raids. Matt was everywhere. When Pittwater scored a late goal and got a sniff, Matthew calmly took control at the back and led the way to the great Beacon win.

Saturday 15th May 2010
U12 Division 4
Tania Park, Balgowlah Heights
Beacon Hill 1 v Seaforth 0

A very busy Tania Park (with the arrival through the heads of Jessica Watson from her epic sailing trip).

Another great day for a football game and might I add for Jessica who is home, well done! Well, what a game it was very even with the ball going from one end to the other very fast. It was great to see the team talking to each other on the park & lots of players dropping back to defend when needed. It took till 23 minutes into the game when Christian struck with a great ball in the top corner after three off sides that weren't - but who's counting? A quick drink at half time, then time to play ball.

Seaforth came out strong but the great back row had it covered - this game was not over. Seaforth, with the help of a strong wind, looked dangerous but the keeper, Lewis, was there every time. Then back down to the Seaforth's end with Barney almost slotting one in. After that is was Christian's turn again with a great run from half way with only the keeper between him, then a pause while he waited for the off side... Instead it was full time! 1-0 great win Beacon & Man of the Match was Lewis. Well done!!!

Beacon Hill 1 v CC Strikers 1

Photo: Beacon Hill U13 Division 3

With Abbey, Tim and Jacob not playing and with only one reserve, the match was very challenging for the Beacon Hill 13-3's. Jason was goalie for the first half, he made several fantastic saves and showed no fear when up against a charge of Strikers. Megan won many balls off the opposition, her skills were excellent on the day.

Alex, Jasper and Alara made some headway into the opposition's territory, but were stopped each time by the Strikers defence. Both sides were very even, our passing was definitely better but the Strikers determination to keep us out was just as strong, the first half remained scoreless.

The second half started well for Beacon Hill; Rebecca was in goals and made many skilful saves and showed both teams her big goal kicks. We made several forays toward goal, Jason almost scoring when his strike went slightly high, then a few minutes later, a great pass from Logan to Alara who did a huge kick into the top left corner of the goal got us on the scoreboard!

The Strikers then responded with a lightning fast reply and a run straight into our goal to equalise the match. With not much time left, we made more big runs at goal, with Travis unlucky not to score with his strike near the end of the match missing by inches.

All in all, a great result and a very entertaining match to watch.

Saturday 15th May 2010
U14 Division 1
Beacon Hill Oval
Beacon Hill 5 v CC Strikers 0

On a very chilly Saturday morning up at Beacon Hill oval, the 14/1s played their rivals from last yrs comp, CC Strikers, with Strikers on the bottom of the table with no points, this was a game we had to win to stay at the top of the ladder.

Usually the boys are very slow starters early in the morning, but in this match they surprised everyone including their Coach. In the first 20 minutes we were 3 up with wonderful goals coming from Patrick Frith (2) and Zac Blunden!

The second half was a bit slower, with our boys controlling the game and knocking the ball around beautifully, which had super coach Ross Talarico gleaming. Beacon got another goal with Ben Wickham on hand to score a diving header from 6 yards out following excellent build up play from Charlie Atkins.

There was a moment of panic however with James and Adam getting mixed up and the Strikers player coming through to shoot at an empty net, but a superb goal line clearance from Hayden Elvy prevented the visitors from scoring.

An excellent game by the boys which keeps us going in our quest for semi-final football this year. Special mention to Macca Steveley who bossed the midfield throughout the game. 5-0 Beacon Hill.

Saturday 15th May 2010
U15 Division 3
Jackson Road, Warriewood
Beacon Hill 2 v Pittwater 3

Despite the score the team went out there today in glorious sunny conditions. Great passing skills Denis, good follow up on the ball by Sam and Oliver and lots of running into free space by Adam saw the ball move freely round the park. Dominating defence by Josh, Richard, Thomas and Scott in goals saw many opportunities saved and the opposition having to scramble back up the field. We had the first shots on goal and dominated, but Pittwater scored first, Beacon Hill looked on fire in the first half however two goals in the early part of the game saw Pittwater take an early lead, having a deflected ball off Lauren slip by Scott, the rest of the half BH team had to play catch up soccer.

Towards half time Bethany flew down the wing with great back up from James C to out pace her opponent to cross a ball to James Stepien to put one in the net.

In the second half the team had three shots at goal, a solid boot by Ben that just slipped over the upper bar of the goal, a brilliant shot from midfield by Josh and a cross by Ben that rolled in front of all those feet. Finally an own goal from Pittwater off a beautiful corner from James S put the team behind by one.

Despite a few political movements over the last few weeks the team should settle down to some confident playing. They are great team to watch and show a lot of passion even when playing catch up footy.

Saturday 15th May 2010
U16 Division 2
Lionel Watts, Frenchs Forest
Beacon Hill 5 v Wakehurst 0

Just to recap on the season so far as you may have missed reports to date for this team. We are progressing well as a team under the guidance of Rosco and Archie who have generously donated their time to coach. The team has had three wins, two draws and no losses to prior to this weekend to place it in the top three on the league table.

This weeks game saw us move from our familiar Beacon Hill Ovals to Lionel Watts to play Wakehurst. We were initially uncomfortable in our new surroundings as coaches and parents struggled with the Wakehurst coffee.

The game started with an early goal to Michael Power inspiring confidence in our play. The boys played some excellent soccer to go to the first half break two nil up thanks also to a goal to Matthew Todd. Whilst the second half started a little slow for Beacon Hill, it soon developed into a game that saw our players lining up for a chance at goal. At one point it seemed Rosco was playing an unusual combination of 6 forwards and 4 backs, which he noted seemed to work as the team progressed to the full time score of 5 – 0.

Players worthy of a special mention this week include Michael Power who scored twice and Alex Cake who was probably the player of the match winning everything in the midfield and centre back. Oh and just in case you thought I had forgotten, that penalty of Cameron Pooley's which I understand is the first he has missed, deserves a special mention as a rare event if nothing else.

Saturday 8th May 2010
U12 Division 3
Tristram Road, Beacon Hill
Beacon Hill 2 vs. CC Strikers (B) 0

The chat within the boys at start was that CC B's are on the bottom of the table and mentally a lot of the players took the view "easy win" into the game. Well this was not the way the game went, even though the Beacon boys won the game. Beacons either played some really good footy, which led to two first half goals or were scrappy in play in the first half. Adam playing with a lot more confidence and assertion up front finished off good work by Beacon mid by scoring the first of the goals. Second goal was scored by Callum from the right side, with a neat kick into the nets. Beacons leading 2-0 at half time.

Obviously a rev up for both teams at half time by the coaches saw the intensity of the game lift from both camps for the second half. The whole Beacon team lifted as did CC's. Many attacking raids down both flanks by Beacons nearly resulted in further goals. Doug on the left and Callum on the right were getting some nice crosses towards goal for Adam and the Beacon forwards. How there weren't more goals, was by more good luck from CC's. Matthew at sweeper along with Ben and Tyler at the back were constantly diffusing CC raids with clearing kicks. Tyler was also busy when in mid and up front later in the game. Game finished at a 2 nil win to Beacons.

Player of the week went to Ethan who was very busy in all aspects of play in defence and attack. His skills are great on and off the ball. Ethan's positional play and finding the gaps is something to be learned from.

Remember boys there are no easy games.

Saturday 8th May 2010
U12 Division 2
Beacon Hill Oval 2
Beacon Hill 6 v Curl Curl 1

With the team almost back to full strength the boys were set for a big one against a side that was out to prove themselves. With some great passing moves and quick distribution the boys made the most of dominating possession to come in at 3-0 at half time.

Some positional changes were made at half time and Ben was let loose out of the goal. Dan was given the task of keeping the net clean and made a great debut. There were a few shuffles trying different positions throughout the 2nd session the boys adapted well and finished the game 6-1 in front.

With goals to Luke K, Ned, Luke R and Justin everyone played a part in the performance. Man of the Match went to Luke K, Player of the Day went to Ned and Justin received the Encouragement Award. Another great game boys which has made you joint leaders on the table.

We won a close fought game in which we should of won comfortably. By far not one of the best games at all, very lucky to get the 3 points and hoping to bounce back next week verse CC Strikers.

Saturday 1st May 2010

Saturday 1st May 2010
U12 Division 3
Grahams Oval, Manly
Beacon Hill 3 v St Augustines A 0

From the whistle Beacons were on the attack, even with a slippery playing surface from the rain overnight a majority of the play was in the opposition half. Two first half goals were scored by Beacon's forward Brandon, who was in the thick of the play.

The second of Brandon's goals was just like watching premier league, where David punt kicked the ball to Callum on the right flank who pushed forward with great pace, passing onto Beau, who then passed onto Brandon to find the net. This play was all over in the blink of an eye and fantastic to witness. Beacons lead 2-0 at half-time.

The second half started patchy for the boys, as again after the lolly break the boys didn't look focused and appeared lacklustre. Maybe no break is the answer to keep the momentum going.

As the second half unfolded Beacons had more scoring chances, particularly from Stephen's corner kicks, finally a goal came from Callum when he found the net and hence the full time score was 3-0.

The BH backs lead by Jamie, Stephen, Matthew, Tyler and Ben when subbed on were all on fire covering most of the balls at the back. Ethan also had a busy game in both attack and defence in the midfield filling in for Cameron.

Player of the week went to Jamie who was a rock in defence playing in the backs. Any balls that came Jamie's way were cleared away very quickly and his attack down the right hand side was awesome. The teams defence lead by Jamie laid the platform for the teams win as it was very solid.

U13 Division 3
Dee Why Oval, Dee Why
Beacon Hill 6 v Seaforth 1

Photo: U13 Division 3 Beacon Hill v Seaforth

Beacon Hill came out quickly from the kick off putting plenty of pressure on the Seaforth goalkeeper who pulled out some great saves, denying us several goals within the first five minutes of the game.

However it was not long before Beacon Hill found the back of the net with Alara scoring our first goal. Jason, Georgia, Megan and Alex worked hard out in left and right midfield making some nice runs down the line, providing our attack with some excellent balls and crosses.

Jason put through a great pass to Travis who scored after dribbling the ball up to goal. In the midfield Logan M and Logan C were both very industrious, winning plenty of balls for us and continually distributing the ball through to our attack.

Our backs were solid - Abbey, Rebecca, Nathan and Jacob frustrated the Seaforth attack by diffusing many of their runs towards goal and stripping the ball from them putting our team back into an attacking position. Alara was on fire as striker and struck a ball beautifully, well out of the Seaforth goalkeeper's reach allowing us to go into the half-time break with a 3-1 lead.

Photo: U13 Division 3 Beacon Hill v Seaforth

Within the first few minutes of the 2nd half Travis capitalised after the Seaforth goalie moved off his line with another great goal. A few positional changes were made in the second half. Abbey moved into centre midfield and made a beautiful run down the right wing, unlucky not to score with her shot deflecting off the right hand goal post.

Thomas moved out of goals to centre back position and did an excellent job. Further goals from Jacob who found the bottom left hand corner of the goal and Jason who finished off well after receiving a great pass from Logan C.

Thank you to our goalies this week, Thomas (1st half) and Nathan (2nd half) for doing such an excellent job in defending the goal. The final score at the full-time whistle was 6-1.

Well done Beacon Hill, from the sideline it was an enjoyable game to watch but most importantly it was fantastic to see how each week you are developing and playing so well together as a team.

Saturday 1st May 2010
U14 Division 1
Tristram Road, Beacon Hill
Beacon Hill 4 v Pittwater B 1

On an overcast Saturday morning with Beacon Hill coming off a 6 point weekend we took on a Pittwater side in whom we played in last year's semi final.

Both sides were looking for a very important 3 points in this tie, with Beacon needing the points to stay with the top teams and Pitts looking for the points so they could get closer to the top 4!

First half got under way and Pitts had all the possession and made it with 2 minutes in, with a foul on the edge of the Beacon area. Pitts took a free kick which bounced off the wall and favourably into the path of their Striker to put it away.

It took Beacon a while to get into the rhythm of the game, but once we did, we dominated possession and field position. We created chance after chance but the ball could not find the target until, "up steps" free kick guru Charlie Smyth unleashed a free kick that smashed against the left post and into the path of Pat Frith in which he coolly finished!! 1-1 half time!!

The second half started like the first finished once again, and we struck inside the 1st minute, Ben pressured the Pitt back four and won the ball, skipped past the centre back, then the left back, and cut it back to Charlie Smyth to coolly finish from 6 yards out.

Beacon kept dominating throughout the half thanks largely to Charlie Atkins and Macca Staveley winning so much ball in the centre of the park, with time winding down, Pitts started pushing forward and left themselves exposed to the counter attack in which we took full advantage.

Ben Wickham beat the offside trap and coolly slotted past the keeper on his near post, and with 10 minutes to go, the 4th and final goal was delivered, once again a great ball played through from midfield and Pat Frith ran on to the through ball and slotted the ball past the on rushing keeper! Final score 4-1

The run of injuries keep continuing for the boys with Nic Carlson ruled out for 4-6 weeks with a broken toe. Hayden Elvy still 2 weeks away recovering from his broken hand and Matt Wickham being closely monitored week to week with his Severs!!

We just wish all these boys a speedy recovery!!
