Monday 26 April 2010
U12 Division 3
Tristram Road, Beacon Hill
Beacon Hill 4 Narrabeen 0

From the outset against Narrabeen the Beacon Hill boys were on fire. Beacons were constantly attacking in the opposition half, with raids down the left and right flanks. The boys were very positive with their shots at goal, but the ball went to the outer side of the posts and even over the crossbar. It was just a matter of time before a goal was to be scored and that came from Callum after some great passing down the right side. Many pinpoint corner kicks from Stephen found the goal mouth with the Narrabeen defence just holding on. Though on the downside there were a couple of Beacon injuries, one quiet nasty where a Narrabeen player got the ball in his face from a full on kick by Ben, they also clashed bodily. The Beacon boys played their best half of football as a team so far this year, it was great to watch. Half time was 1-0 to BH.

The second half saw more of the same great attacking play by the whole team. The ball work as a team was at its best with Callum scoring a great 2nd goal, then Brandon and Adam also scoring goals. All the Beacon players deserve praise for their contribution to the win. The forwards scored goals and were constantly threatening to the Narrabeen goalie, the midfield led by Cameron was solid and pushing the ball forward and the backs led by Stephen were like a rock in defence. Final score 4-0 to the Beacon boys.

Player of the week went to Callum who on the right side of the field was a threat every time he was involved in the play, in both attack and defence Cal was strong. His speed is a wonderful asset as Cal scored 2 goals and was unlucky not to score a couple more. Strong games also from Stephen, whose kicks are bigger than ever, Tyler who tackled and ran strongly and Dougie who worked tirelessly on the left side

Beacon Hill 5 BTH Raiders 1

We started strongly this game and took an early lead through a magnificent goal to Christian. We continued to dominate the first half with excellent defence from Robbie, John, Neil and Mitchell and some great saves in goal by Hugo who kept the opposition scoreless until just before half time when they managed to sneak one past our usual brick wall defence. This had been after some wonderful midfeld work from Barney, Jayden and Ryan who combined to send Lewis towards the goal, who with a great strike found the back of the net for his first ever goal!! The midfield again combined to put Christian through a gap to charge up field and score another fantastic goal to make it 3-1. We continued to apply plenty of pressure on the Raiders especially from Robbie, Lachie and John who were tireless in defence.

The second half saw a more committed Raiders outfit who had long periods in our half continually threatening our goal but this time Lewis was our brick wall in defence and was solid throughout. After our boys withstood the continual waves of attack and out goal remaining intact, a great break by Hugo saw him charge up field to send one past the goalie to make it 4-1. Barney, Jayden and Jarrod combined beautifully with some excellent midfield passing and probing runs to frustrate the opposition and keep them scoreless in the second half. Christian was not finished yet and made another fantastic break up the field and fired another into the back of the net to make it a hat trick!! What a great game for Christian!!

Final Score 5-1 and what a fantastic effort from all our boys especially in the heat, but our well deserved Man of the Match today went to Robert Inglis for his tireless effort in defence.

U14 Division 1
Millers Reserve, Manly Vale
Beacon Hill 4 Brookvale 1

In a very physical game at Millers Reserve, Beacon Hill took on a strong Brookvale side. We were fresh from not having to play on the Saturday against Mosman (due to a forfeit), so the boys should of been up for this game!!

The first half was played at a frantic pace with Brookvale having the better of possession, but with it all that they still couldn't crack the Beacon defence up until when the referee gave a highly controversial penalty in which Brookvale converted. But in true Beacon fashion we didn't drop our heads, and a couple of minutes later Ben Wickham sprung the offside trap and lobbed the keeper with a great finish.

In the second half, a completely different Beacon Hill side took the field and dominated from the whistle, 3 goals were scored in the half with Charlie Atkins, Pat Frith and Macca Steveley all chipping in with the goals!

It was a good display from the boys and keeps us in touch with the top of the table!!

U10 Division 4 - Beacon Hill v Harbord Seasiders United

U10 Division 4 - Beacon Hill v Harbord Seasiders United

Game day started well with the Beacon Hill Blues U10/Div 4 ready for another game. With Joel in goal the team were feeling confident and they ran onto the field and took up their starting positions.

The team had worked hard on their defence and attacking skills in their training session - and they were not to be disappointed with their effort.

Their positional defence for the most part was rock solid and the players found themselves in the right place at the right time. Zepelen playing in the sweeper position found himself stopping the attack against them time and time again - and then getting the ball back up to the other end of the field.

This week the newcomer, Owen, was playing forward and was playing a strong game. And Jacob who has been working on his skills found himself working on overtime tackling the Harbord Seasiders players and getting the ball back down the line.

The forwards were also working well and were keeping to their positions and being in the right place at the right time. The Blues took seven shots at goal and were unfortunate that none of them were able to connect with the back of the net. The team was playing well with the backs and the forwards each doing their job efficiently. With a little more support from the midfielders Beacon Hill could have a great team.

Unfortunately Harbord Seasiders were able to connect the ball 4 times to the back of the net which resulted in a less than stellar result for the team.

For the outstanding effort that Owen put in he was awarded the player of the day trophy by the players. An excellent result for his first game and makes the team look forward to their next game.

U12 Division 2
County Road, Frenchs Forest
Beacon Hill 1 BTH Raiders 0

Today was the first game of the season for Justin who recently joined our team and he put in a big effort.

Ben sat out the first half after receiving a ball to the back of the head during warm up. Therefore Oli was goal keeper and did a great job to save a goal attempt by BTH in the first half.

Ben was feeling ok to take the field as goal keeper in the second half. The ball was played in both halves of the field with Hayden and Ned having several attempts at goal with some of them being so close to going in but instead they went over the top.

Hayden managed to get a goal in the second half. Great plays by Jacob, Jesse and Harlan in the middle and a fantastic effort by Rhys, Daniel, Luke K and Lachlan defending to keep BTH scoreless.

It was great to see Darcy at the game showing support for the team and we wish Luke R a speedy recovery from pneumonia.

Well done boys, keep up the good work.

Saturday 24 April 2010
U12 Division 3
Millers Reserve, Manly Vale
Beacon Hill 4 v Mosman 1

First up game at Millers for Beacon Hill and with the kick off to BH you would have thought that the boys were still in bed as after 50 seconds Mosman had scored a goal with some very ordinary defence by the backs. From that point in the game the BH boys really lifted and were constantly on the attack. A great break down the right side by Callum ended up with him slotting a great goal from a wide angle. A second goal scored by Brandon was again after some neat passing through the forwards down the right side. Other highlights besides the two goals was an amazing save by goalie David who was at full stretch to his left and Ben who having only his third game in comp was in everything, in attack and defence. Half time was 2-1 to BH.

The second half saw the play all over the park with BH on the attack and looking good at times with Adam, Brandon and Callum all having scoring opportunities. Adam scored after good lead up by Cameron and Beau in the midfield on to the forwards. The final goal came after a pinpoint corner kick from Stephen into the goalmouth where Brandon scored his second goal. At times the BH play was great and at other times scrappy. The backs lead by Matthew and Stephen did come good after the initial goal to Mosman and scrapped well through the second half. Final score 4-1 to the Beacon boys.

Player of the week went to Ben who on the left side of the field was very involved in the BH attack and defended tenaciously and really attacked the opposition when they had possession, something that his teammates need to do more of. A mention of Callum who constantly attacked down the right side where his footwork and speed left the opposition in his tracks.

U12 Division 4
Arrarat Reserve, Forestville
Beacon Hill 2 Wakehurst 1

What a Fantastic Match both for the players themselves as well as the team of spectators.
Having gone behind 1 - 0 we fought back to earn a well deserved win 2-1 against Wakehurst. There was not one player who did not contribute wholeheartedly to the win. Jaden and Lewis both did great in goal, making some excellent saves.

Who will ever forget Lewis's brilliant one man band save from the penalty and rebound. Everybody may have stopped but not Lewis!!. In many ways this was the turning point of the match. If we had gone 2-0 down, we may have struggled to get back.

The defence as usual worked hard. In fact every player contested for the ball well and had a go. Robbie, Neil and Lachie made some great tackles and Mitchell's early defence was a highlight.

Jarrod also was getting stuck in and Barney must have covered many kilometres as he went from attack to defence countless times.

Christian almost scored with an excellent shot, but the breakthrough finally came when Ryan converted with a well placed shot over the keeper.

We were now at 1-1 and pressing for victory.

Commeth the hour, commeth the man of the match Hugo!
After great control at his feet Hugo slotted the ball into the net and celebrated with a well executed somersault!

What a great win!!!

Well done boys and well done Freddie and Leo for all your hard work.

U13 Division 3 - Beacon Hill v Avalon

It was a grey and sultry morning when the mighty 13-3s arrived at the Tristram Road fields for their match against Avalon.

Andrew and Marco immediately set them to a rigorous warm up to limber up muscles and enthusiasm was high.

Just as the game started the sun broke through, and the temperature rose promising a warm contest. The game itself was overwhelmingly played in the opposition's half of the field, their goal keeper was sorely tested but he was unable to prevent 5 magnificent goals from being scored.

The first goal was scored by Logan M and followed up by equally momentous kicks and goals from Jacob, Alara, Jacob (again) and Logan C!

These plays could not have been completed without some ever-improving team work between the backs and midfield players. The team called to each other more and observed strategic shots to fellow players to setup up those amazing goals.

The team marked their opponents ably and defended off spurts of attack from the Avalon side.

The group finished on a terrific high knowing they had done a great job as a team and looking forward to more great runs during the season!

See you all next weekend!

Welcome Sam Feberwee to our team and disappointingly, we lost our captain Toby Manchee to U16-1's.

We were once again, low in subs. BHU15-3's had a challenging game but showed enormous strength and resilience in what was an exciting game to watch.

The first goal was scored in the first 5 minutes with great play making by the forwards and mid fielders Bethany, a great cross from Ben, James C, James S and Denis. The defence kept the ball in our possession and any loose ball heading towards our goal was quickly tidied up by Josh Tromp, Lauren and Tomas Ban on the wings.

Richard, Oliver and Sam, showed great determination in passing the ball and keeping the plays moving towards the goals. Scott P kept our goal once again scoreless by the opposition.

Strong passing and good calling to the team players saw BH score three goals in the first half and finished with 1 more goal in the second half leaving our opposition scoreless, despite missing a penalty shot.

One goal was disallowed for a foul throw so had our man kept his feet on the ground it would have been a smashing 5-0 win. Well done Beacon Hill.

Goals scorers were Denis Dwiky, James Stepien, James Cirera and Bethany Lyell.
At present despite losing team members you are undefeated.

Beacon Hill 5 BTH Raiders 0 (Forfeit)

The Beacon Hill Blues arrived on match day for a tough game against an opponent who wanted to win just as much as we did. Five minutes before kickoff the coach of the other team came to the Blues to let us know that they would be forfeiting the game because they lacked the number of players to start.

But not wanting to throw the game away three of the Blues would play for the opposition to even up the numbers. Well this was something to look forward to because it means that it can be used as a game of training when the players could be moved around.

The game was a hard fought one with no substitutes to either side. This made it rough and tough with a lot of running by everyone. Marko put up his hand to go in goal and considering he was way out of position he played so very well. Well enough indeed to get awarded the player of the match.

One goal was scored by the Blues and it didn't matter how many they scored – because the win was still to us!

U12 Division 2
Tristram Road, Beacon Hill
Beacon Hill 1 Manly Allambie 0

Firstly let me say the welcome to everyone to what I'm sure is going to be a very successful season with the under 12/2 boys team. I would like all the players to read the match reports every week.

I thought that we were a little bit unlucky to go down by two goals to Wakehurst the previous week and I was really looking forward to the return of Ned, Oli and Hayden this week. Today we were by far the better team with 75% of the game being played in the opposition half. In the previous game against Wakehurst I thought we lacked defensive capability just in front of the fullbacks, there were too many shots allowed to come in from the edge of the box with the result of too many goals scored against us. It became apparent to me that boys of this age are getting stronger and now have sufficient strength to shoot from outside the penalty square. This being the case it is really important to have midfielders who can get back into position when we are under attack with the primary purpose of defending on the edge of the box and making sure that shots are blocked. So this week I played two stoppers instead of one, Harlan at right side stopper and Rhys at left side stopper. This formation is a very good formation for controlling the centre of the park as you get 2 players left and right and the central midfielder forming a triangle and dominating the centre of the pitch. The strategy worked well today and I will adopt it for a few more weeks until I think we don't need it any longer. Harlan improved on the previous week with some good tackling and particularly some excellent heading. Winning the air battle from goal kicks and clearances is a crucial skill when getting into the older age groups and Harlan is doing that really well. A good dribbling run in the middle of the second half got him close to goal. Keep trying Harlan and the goals will come. Rhys has good ball skills and he reads the game well, works hard and holds the midfield really well. So crucial in a successful team is having a player like Rhys. I plan on swapping Rees and Luke Kerrigan quite a lot this season just to give both boys opportunities to do well at both positions.

Our fullbacks today improved on the previous week, they were tighter on their opposition giving our opponents very few opportunities to go for a goal. I particularly thought that Lachlan had a terrific game at right back, I really think he is going to be an outstanding defender this year, he is tough and physical. Daniel really improved this week, his positional play was much better, he marked really tight and was able to win many challenges and get the ball back up the sideline. Well done Daniel. Luke Kerrigan had a solid game at centre back and what I really like about his play at the back is he reads the game and anticipates well. Ben had a quiet game simply through lack of pressure applied by the opposition but he was there when needed with a terrific save at the end of the game from really close range. A great save. Well done Ben.

Today's game gave our forwards the opportunity to show what they can do. A new striking combination of Ned and Hayden had a great game. They pressured the opposition well and we could have easily won the game five nil. Missing a few shots when just starting at striker is not unexpected and I am sure that with a few more weeks experience up front Hayden and Ned will be converting many more opportunities. I do think they need to work together a little bit more, they almost need to be like brothers up front. Understanding will come with time and desire for better cooperation with each other. The other thing I would like to see is more work off the ball from the forwards. This means when one of our halves has got the ball and they're looking to someone pass-through, a run into space is what is needed. Ned and Hayden did this well from the counter-attack but we also need to be making runs when we have the opposition pinned in their own half. I will be working with them at training on these points. I'm really sure Hayden and Ned will get a lot of goals for us this season. A terrific left foot snap from the edge of the penalty area by Ned was a terrific goal and gave us the win today. Great work Ned and many more to come. I had told Hayden during the week at training to use his body and strength a little bit more to create the space he needed to win possession upfront. I was really pleased to see that he listened and tried that today. Hayden had a number of free kicks awarded against him for doing this but I still want him to keep trying. Using the body to create space in a legal way is a bit of an art but very necessary when you are forward.

Jacob improved 100% this week on the previous week. Last week he looked a little bit unsure of himself last match but this week he showed that he can tough it out with boys of this age group even though he could be playing in U10's. He won challenges and made some good passes to the forwards and I particularly remember a good left foot cross along the ground he made to Hayden in the second half. Likewise Jesse continued to shine this week. I love the way he wins the ball, creates a little bit of space, gets to the edge of his opponent and lays the pass on. Well done Jesse. I would like to see our halves go really wide and straight to the sideline when our fullbacks get possession. When the fullbacks win the ball they need someone to pass to almost immediately and the go to man is going to be your half waiting on the very edge of the field. It is a position that provides space, safety and is a good place to start an attacking raid. Oli played well today and I particularly liked his through balls. Playing a ball for a player to run on to is great play and shows an increasing football maturity as opposed to passing straight to a player.

Lastly let me say thank you to Isaac for filling in today and also we welcome the return of Luke Reid who played so marvellously the week before with three goals and a man of the match performance.

We are going to do well this year. I can feel it. Lets try hard at training, listen to what I say and we will be there on Grand Final day.

See you at training.

Beacon Hill 0 v CC Strikers A 4

Well what a great game, from the whistle the play was all over the field.

BH had all players available this week and with the warm day, this was to be helpful. BH started with the same team on the paddock as last game, with Callum and Ethan on the bench.

BH made numerous breaks as the boys showed great teamwork together and they were unlucky not to get an early goal, but for CC's goalie. CC's were making breaks down the flanks of which BH had to do a mountain of defence and goalie David was kept extremely busy.

When subs Callum & Ethan came on they made an immediate difference. Constant pressure from CC's had them ahead 2-0 at oranges.

The boys were looking tired at the break, but did come out and made a number of breaks with Callum, Brandon, Adam and Ethan in the thick of the play up front and in the midfield and again were very unlucky to not get a goal or two.

CC's had the run of play with some dubious referee decisions that lead to further goals, including an obvious offside where CC's scored. Ben (2nd game ever), Tyler, Doug and Jamie were constantly chasing CC players.

At the final whistle BH lost 4-0, though the score didn't indicate the tremendous effort put in by the boys.

Player of the week was David as he saved 6 or 7 potential goals with some inspiring goalie work diffusing the onslaught by putting his body on the line with some great saves.

Nolan Reserve, North Manly
U12 Division 4
Beacon Hill 3 v Pittwater 1

It was a terrific match to watch this week. In the first half we dominated the field position with great attacking from the whistle spending a lot of time in the opposition half.

A terrific team effort with lots of passing and some individual breaks saw around half a dozen shots just miss or hit the post but at around the 20 min mark on his second charge at goal a shot from Ryan hit the back of the net 1-0.

Some great defence in the midfield and out back by Lewis, John and Mitchell ensured we went to half time 1-0 up.

Pittwater tried to respond in the second half but our boys were not finished yet and 5 mins in Christian sneaked one past the goalie to make it 2-0 and followed that up 5 mins later with a great chip over the goalie who was charging at him to make it 3-0.

Again just like the first half our backs were persistent and also our midfield led by Lachie with a great head and chase with his shot just wide, Hugo also made a charge at goal with his attempt also just wide.

Everyone tried really hard today and played with tremendous commitment. We played so well our goalkeepers did not see much of the ball although Lewis had to make a good diving save in the second half. Some tired marking in front of goal with minutes to go let the opposition in for a consolation goal.

Fulltime Beacon Hill 3 Pittwater 1.

Man of the match this week goes to Lachie, well done.
Great work team! Lets keep it going.

U13 Division 3 - Beacon Hill v Brookvale

We had the full team for this match and from the kick off it looked like we were in with a chance.

We saw several big runs early into goal with strikes by Logan M, Alara, Travis and Jason, all getting blocked or caught by the excellent Brookvale keeper. Jasper was in goals for the first half, made some great saves and was faced with some determined Brookvale attacks; one being successful in the middle of the half.

Some excellent back and mid field passing and ball control was displayed by Alex, Abby, Nathan and Megan;
no doubt attributed to the great coaching by Gino and Anton.

After the break, Alex was in goals and was tested early on with Brookvale getting through the defence and scoring a lucky goal. Only two minutes later, we ran the ball down toward goal, the ball passing from Nathan to Jacob to Logan M who did a big kick over the goalie's head and into the goal to put us on the board.

Great defence by Logan C, Tim, Georgia and Thomas helped keep the opposition from scoring any more goals in the match. Fantastic attacks at goal continued by Beacon Hill with some near misses by both Jason and Rebecca.

Only a minute from full time, a zig-zag run through the Brookvale mid field was made by Nathan, passing to Megan who passed to Jacob who was able to slam the ball into the back of the net for our second and equalizing goal of the match!

Beacon Hill 1 v Wakehurst 3

Beacon Hill went to Lionel Watts knowing they were in for a very tough game against last years champions, once again without 3 players in Patrick, Adam and Hayden, the boys battled bravely in the first half having only a few chances to strike, though it was tough against a well organised opposition.

Wakehurst had a greater share of the ball and it paid off with 2 goals before half time!

Second half was a lot different to the first, despite not having any reserves and the heat taking its toll, the boys battled hard and matched it with their more fancied opponents.

Wakehurst scored again to make it 3, but with 5 minutes to go Beacon struck, and did we strike well!!!

Charlie Smyth took a free kick from 45 yards out and instead of playing the ball into the box, took a shot that went into the top corner of the net, an early candidate for goal of the season for sure!!

The final score was 3-1 in favour of Wakehurst, though I think next time we will give them a run for their money with all boys on deck!!

U10 Division 4
Beacon Hill 0 v Wakehurst 1

The Beacon Hill Blues, or the U10/4 team rolled up on their first Saturday with great anticipation to their first game. They had only had one chance to practice together and had played no trial games, but were nevertheless looking forward to the year ahead.

The game started and the creaking of the bones was shaken off and the legs were put into gear to as they rumbled over the field. The drumming in of 'keeping your position' has kept in their minds as they all held their positions well. The first half unfortunately resulted in a goal against them, and although undeterred were disappointed to let it through.

Hoping for a better second half, the team struggled with their fitness. After having ½ a year off from playing and with the length of the game being increased, this was greater than some were expecting. This had resulted in tired legs running around the paddock, yet their enthusiasm was not dampened even as the rain at times was trying to do. While there was some individual brilliance, they didn't perform as well as they would have liked to.

At the final whistle the team ran back to the side sucking in air and gulping down some water. In the end it was an unfortunate loss of one goal to nothing. They take this back knowing that this means training harder to increase their match fitness.

From the first touch of the ball the Beacon Hill Boys were off to a fiery start for the season. The first half saw the boys under pressure from the Wakehurst team but with a great Goal Keeper kick and a fantastic breakaway at the half way mark by Luke Reid, the first goal of the season was scored by Luke.

A through ball from Christian Bonacci to Luke saw Luke score his second goal leaving the score 3-2 to Wakehurst at half time.

A rousing half time talk by Mike Mulherin, the coach, saw the boys getting to the ball first and marking Wakehurst players tightly in the second half.

Many thanks to the two U10-2 players, Ryan Kerrigan and Jake Reid and Christian Bonacci from the U12-4s for filling in this Easter weekend.

The final Beacon Hill goal was scored by Luke Reid giving Luke a hat trick for the match and earning him Man of the Match.

First game of the season was against Avalon. From the whistle the Beacon Hill boys were on the attack and the forwards were unlucky to not convert early opportunities into goals of which there were many. Avalon made a break late in the first half which left goalie David with two players to contend with of which Avalon scored. At the break Beacons were down 1-0.

After half time the play see sawed up and down the field. Beacons had more shots at goal, but they went astray, till very late in the game when Brandon was able to find the Avalon net. A well deserved goal that left the result a 1 all draw. The Beacon defence was tested many times through the second half by Avalon from corners, with the Beacon backs and goalie busy. All the boys tried hard and were legless at game's end, with no subs available, as the skills are evident in the team. Players that were the pick of the BH team were Cameron, Stephen, Matthew and Beau.

Player of the week was Beau, who was outstanding in the midfield, his speed, tackling and running the ball was evident as Beau was everywhere on the field.

Saturday 3 April 2010 - Round 1
Boondah Reserve, North Narrabeen
U12 Division 4
Beacon Hill 1 v Mosman 3

We're off to another season of football and what an interesting start! Those of us who were in town for Easter trotted off to our home game at North Narrabeen... a long way from Beacon Hill Oval, that is for sure!

We arrived to greet a Mosman team with only seven players to our nine. My co-coach Leo and I took the approach that we would prefer to win in merit rather than advantage and agreed to field only seven players leaving us with two reserves... and a very spacious field! From a points point of view it was not the best decision as we lost 3-1 (thus no points) but from a sportsmanship perspective we believe we did right thing – football was the winner! We actually received a very nice rap from a senior member of the Referees Association who was there on the day saying we were very fair. The boys did not seem too perturbed at the conclusion of the match. They all had fun!

Our boys all displayed some great skills on the pitch. Having coached many of these budding stars before, I was pleasantly surprised at their performance. With only seven it was hard to set the field and even harder for the boys to stick to the field settings but it seemed to work out in the end with the fitter players covering where needed. Starting at the front, Ryan had a couple of great opportunities but the grass was just that little too wet and too long. I am sure there are a number of goals in those boots of his! Barney has improved tenfold since I last saw him in action and he was running and chasing like the wind… He just needs to make sure his shoe-laces are done up properly! In the midfield, Christian showed excellent ball-skills and fitness and came up with some great crosses in front of the goal. Lochie, our goal scorer, was strong and tenacious and although the goal came from a fairly soft kick, he certainly 'has a boot on him'! Jarrod, who also helped out in defence, made a great recovery after overdoing it in the warm up and ended up chasing after the opposition like a dog with a bone!

The final score line showed a convincing win to Mosman but our defence made them work hard for their goals, they did not win that easily. Jayden and Lewis shared the goal keeping duties (that is a very big goal for an 11 year old to cover...) and they did a fabulous job. Lewis kicked a ball so hard that his boot followed right behind! Jayden had some hair-raising moments and at one stage stopped the ball right on the goal line but he did a fine job. Out on the field they took turns as centre backs and did really well. Robbie, our super kicker and defender extraordinaire was using his big boot to clear one ball after the other. Last, but not least, we have our super defender Mitchell (well deserved Player of the Match) who chased and ran circles around the Mosman players all over the pitch. Great effort, Mitch, both on the running and ball control.

In all, us coaches were pleased with what we saw and we look forward to having Neil, Hugo and John with us in Round 2.

U13 Division 3 - Beacon Hill v St Augustines

The opening game of the 2010 season for the Mixed U13-3's was very exciting to watch. Both teams pushed each other all over the field, with the Saints forwards making a barrage at our goal resulting in a successful strike early in the first half. With us having five players down, the two borrowed players from the 12-2's, Rhys and Luke, were excellent players and showed both sides their great skills. A combination of fantastic passing and decisive play in the middle of the first half saw a much needed goal scored by Travis. Jacob, in goals, made many great saves during the first half, helping keep the half time score at one all.

The second half was mainly played in our end of the field, with excellent defence and great play by the whole team. Travis was goalie in this half and kept the opposition's attacks out time after time. Abby, Alara, Georgia and Megan proved themselves to be valuable players and made great passes and tackles throughout the game. Several of our forays to goal came very close and we were unlucky not to score. The Saints scored one more goal in the latter stages of the game to seal their victory.

Well done by all players and we look forward to our next match.

Beacon Hill Oval
U14 Division 1
Beacon Hill 2 St. Augustines 1

Our first game of the season was a very long time coming for the boys, 2 months of pre season to get to the first game day was a relief!!

We played a very good St. Augustine's team at Beacon Hill Oval!

Our team started strongly going 2-0 up at half time with 2 well taken goals from Nic Carlson and Charlie Smyth.

After half time the boys battled despite no subs and a borrowed player, managing to keep out the Saints strikers up until the last kick of the game when they managed to score!

Final score 2-1
