The top two teams in the U12/2s competition faced off in the grand final at Cromer Park on Saturday.

The hard pitch made controlling the ball difficult but both sides started in a very determined fashion. Many attacking raids by both teams were thwarted by equally excellent defence.

Dan was up to the challenge of marking a very fast and skilful opposing winger, while Rhys and Lachie in cover defense made many good tackles to prevent the opposition getting a shot on goal. Ben in goal was super solid as usual and took everything cleanly.

Oli and Hayden worked well together down the left side in the first half to put pressure on Wakehurst. The defense of both teams meant both goalkeepers had little to do in the first half and we went to the break 0 – 0.

The second half started with our team very much on attack. Again and again we mounted a challenge with the halves cleaning up well in the middle. Jesse, Jacob, Harlan and Luke K gave us the go forward and Luke Reid threatened down the right side with many crosses. Ned, Hayden and Darcy up front were marked very tight.

Eventually a cross from Luke Reid went behind Ned; Hayden contested the ball and it trickled out to the edge of the box for Justin, making a customary late run, to deliver a super low shot. It was a hard fumble by the keeper who lost control and dropped the ball over the line. We were 1 – 0 up with 8 minutes to go.

The guys knuckled down to defend our lead while Wakehurst piled on the pressure. Our backs and keeper withstood all challenges to see out the game as grand final winners.

Well done boys. A fantastic and well-deserved finish to a great season!

The first half saw the play mostly concentrated in Saint's territory; Beacon Hill made several unsuccessful attacks at goal with "just missed" strikes by Alara, Logan M and Travis. Jacob was goalie for the whole match and saw some action toward the end of the first half, once after making a great save, his resulting goal kick went almost to halfway on the full, then bounced down the entire length of the field!

The second half had St Augustine's on the attack from the whistle; Jacob made an unbelievable save that had the crowd cheering. The midfield was passing accurately, Alex, Nathan and Logan C dominating the game each time the ball came our way. The backs headed off almost every charge by the opposition; Thomas, Tim and Rebecca were excellent in their defence of the goal.

Abbey charged the Saint's goal twice in a row; both times her strike was caught by the ever vigilant keeper. Megan had a great game, winning the ball with some fancy footwork and dispatching it up the line with accuracy. Georgia was in the thick of the action at every opportunity, tackling and winning the ball off St Augustine's with ease.

Jasper was on fire; his ball skills and great passing up the line was a pleasure to watch. Tim had a penalty kick from 30 metres out that got to Jason who almost got the ball into the net; just missing as it skimmed the wrong side of the goal post.

After full time and still nil all, the first extra time session was heart-in-mouth stuff; the amount of saves that Jacob performed and the desperate defence in our goal mouth was keeping the spectators entertained. Jason did a huge run toward goal; his attack was thwarted at the last moment by a wall of Saints.

The final extra time period was almost as exciting as the first, as both teams were desperate to finalise the match. Jacob did another impossible save, the ball being struck very hard at goal, bouncing off the cross bar and going directly downwards, it hit the ground behind Jacob, then went up in the air and ended up in his safe hands.

The final whistle blew a few seconds later to the result that we were joint Grand Final winners!

At the Presentation, Jacob got the Player of the Match Trophy for his excellent and match saving goal keeping.

Congratulations Beacon Hill FC U15/3 on winning the Grand Final 1:0 against Manly Vale FC at Cromer Park.

You are a CHAMPION Team!

After a few minor injuries and illnesses during the week, we were a little concerned, but your fighting spirit and 'never say die' attitude rewarded you with a great victory against one of the best teams which have dominated the competition for years.

Photo: U15 Division 3 - Grand Final winners

After the coin toss, they immediately chose to play in the direction of the wind (and slight slope). They kept us very busy during the first period, mainly in our half of the field, but failed to utilise their advantage and finish their chances due to great defending and goalkeeping. Score at half time 0:0.

As the game progressed, we grew more confident and started to gain the upper hand against our opponents creating several good attacking sequences. The midfielders and the strikers also worked hard to try and find a way past a very stubborn Manly Vale defence. Occasionally, we tried a few long range shots, but these didn't quite find their target.

Eventually, the 'golden boot' of Pat Flakelar found the back of the net, followed by great jubilation from our players and the excellent support on the sidelines from the families and friends who constantly cheered the team on. But the game wasn't over yet.

Shortly afterwards, Manly Vale were awarded a penalty for a foul in the box and we all held our breath. However, our reliable keeper Scott Peterson, came to the rescue and saved the spotkick. What a sense of relief!

There were only about 10 minutes left to play and we had a few nervous moments towards the end but the better team had prevailed on the day. Justice was restored. In the end, we didn't need a golden goal in extra-time like in the nail-biter last week. Final score 1:0.

We won it with great teamwork, focusing on our tasks and sheer determination to be successful. Who would have thought we would be premiership champions and Grand Final winners after our trial games against the U14/1's at the beginning of the season? You all thoroughly deserved this victory and the silverware that comes with it. Well done team, enjoy your achievement, you all earnt it.

Again, on behalf of the coaches and managers, thanks to all the players, families and friends for your support during the year, best wishes and see you again next season.

Both teams declared joint Grand Final winners

Photo: U16 Division 2 Grand Final - Beacon Hill 0 CC Strikers 0

It was fairly obvious from the opening whistle that Strikers had come ready to play and to be honest our boys didn't look as sharp as they normally do, but as the game progressed they worked their way back into the match to go into half-time nil all.

After some great motivational words from our coaches Roscoe and Archie the boys went into the second half looking like a different side and with that came numerous goal scoring opportunities with the both Josh Carlson and Josh Malcolm going close.

To Strikers credit we were just unable to put them away. With about 5 minutes to go a Strikers player managed to get through our normal rock solid defence and Oran our goalie pulled off an absolutely brilliant save to keep us in the match.

The 2 sides were still locked at nil all when the final whistle blew and both sides were destined to play extra time. Again our boys went close and it was obvious Strikers were tiring, we were just unable to score that goal to give the boys victory and the match ended after extra time nil all.

Cameron Pooley had a fantastic game in defence and the whole team played themselves to a standstill. This team has finished the year Major and joint Minor premiers and has remained undefeated all season conceding only 6 goals all year, a fantastic effort by a great bunch of young men.

A huge thank you has to be said to our coaches Roscoe and Archie who have been absolutely brilliant, each and every member of the side has finished the year a much better footballer than they started.

A well deserved victory for the Beacon Hill 16/3's over a determined BTH with a final score line of 3 goals to 1. BTH was one of only two teams to record a victory over Beacon Hill during the season so we knew it wasn't going to be an easy game.

The boys needed to take control of the game early on as we had lost the toss and BTH elected to run with the stiff breeze at their back in the first half. Our determination to hold them out in the first half paid off, after we went in at half time with a 0-0 score line.

With the wind now at our backs it took Beacon Hill only a few minutes to show BTH how to score. The second goal followed soon after and then a third about half way through the half.

BTH pulled one back after a scramble in the box but the 16/3's dug in and were unlucky on several occasions not to increase the goal tally.

A thoroughly deserved victory to top off the season after securing the Major Premiership as well.

A big thank you goes to the coach and manager at the start of the season Russell and Kylie Dwyer for getting the team off to a flying start. Also a big thank you to Julianne Kendall for stepping in half way through the season to take over the manager's role from Kylie.

Oh What a Feeling...

The Beacon Hill Under 18/4's were thrilled to become the Major Premiers and play in the finals this year.

What a true 'nail biter'!
No goals were scored during the game by either team resulting in extra time.

After 15 minutes each way there were still no goals so the inevitable penalty shoot-out took place! They were so close but the opposition, Forest Killarney, took out the final by 3 goals to two. Bad luck boys you played your hearts out!!

An inspiring line up comprising of Captain Keiran, Alex, Ameya, James P, James A, James W, Josh, Rory, Sam B, Sam L, Khalib, Liam, Mitch and Mark; this diverse yet cohesive team has been so popular it even had a waiting list to join!

The season has seen them all go from strength to strength thanks to their dedicated and inspiring coach Rob Perini, their sheer enthusiasm for the game and perennially strong parental support.

Hats-off to these guys for their attendance record this year, as most of them have had an especially busy time turning 18, working part time, learning to drive and studying for the HSC. Already, most of the team are talking about playing together again next year – who knows what they can achieve?

Whatever happens though these guys just get out there and have a good time!

Special thanks again to Coach Rob; Co-Manager Linzi, Stephen Avis, Andy and Lisa Dennis!

Beacon Hill v CC Strikers
Full time/extra time score: 0 – 0
Corners 2 - 0 during extra time
Result: BHFC win on corners during extra time

Photo: U13 Division 3 - Beacon Hill v CC Strikers

From the outset it looked very promising for the Beacon Hill U13-3's to secure a win as the play mainly kept in the CC Strikers end of the field, our forwards keeping the pressure on and not letting up.

Both Travis and Jason had chances of getting an early goal; the Striker's goalie was on the ball and made some great saves and one of Travis's strikes on an open goal hitting the goalpost.

The play eventually moved toward our goal and with Jacob wearing the gloves, he made plenty of fantastic saves during the match, one big diving save after the break, certainly kept us in the match.

The whole team was passing well, it was possibly the best play we have seen all season, the midfielders and backs defending and not giving up any ground. The latter stages of the second half of normal time saw Abbey, Alara and Logan M all had strikes at goal; all shots were either deflected or caught by the goalie.

In extra time, the play was extremely even, Jacob making even more spectacular saves, and our forwards having a few strikes at goal as well. In the second session of extra time, we were fortunate to get the first corner awarded to us, the whole team breathed a sigh of relief; another corner awarded to us followed just before the whistle to seal the match.

U12 Division 3
Lionel Watts, French's Forest
Beacon Hill 2 Wakehurst 2

After some soul searching this week the Beacon boys really had a lot to prove to themselves after last week's poor showing. A great sunny day beckoned for the return match against Wakehurst & what a different Beacon team turned up.

The Beacon boys were on the attack from the kickoff & looked like the well drilled team, with great teamwork we have seen throughout the year. The play was all over the field with great play & skills from both teams.

Beacons went 1 goal up after great play resulted in Adam scoring. Beacons were really unlucky not to score other goals with Callum hitting the post, Brandon not quiet getting enough head on a great cross. It would have been a spectacular goal & other shots just missing.

Wakehurst came back very late in the 1st half, with a goal after the Beacon defence didn't clear the ball away from their line. Half time 1 all.

Straight after half time the Beacon boys were under fire from Wakehurst, but withstood the pressure. The boys finally got the play down field where neat team work resulted in Callum scoring a great goal from down the right side, Cal's pace is amazing!

Beacons unfortunately didn't mark up which let the opposition score an equalizing goal. All the players deserve praise for their effort today & need to take that form into the semi finals next week. Final score 2 all draw.

Player of the week was Tyler, who has proved to be a real asset in the team as he can cover nearly all positions across the field. Tyler was very involved in the defence in particular & saved many attacking raids with kicks forward. Again thanks to Freddie for the loan of Ryan & Hugo who contributed to the hard fought draw.

Beacon Hill 4 v Pittwater 1

Photo: U13 Division 3 - Beacon Hill v Pittwater

A full team for this round 7 wash out replay had Beacon Hill dominating the entire game from start to finish.

Travis was in goals to start with and saw a bit of action with a couple of great saves, but most of the action was down at the other end of the field. Jason made an accurate pass forward to Jacob who did a big kick that sailed over the Pittwater goalie's head and into goal to put us on the scoreboard. Not long after, an opposition goal kick found Jason who passed over to Georgia, her kick finding the back of the net to land her first goal of the season.

Great defence and tackling by Thomas and Nathan, both winning the ball back on many occasions. After another goal kick, Tim lined up a shot at goal from about 40 metres out and with a huge wind assisted kick, managed to get the ball over the goalie's head and into goal for our third goal of the half.

After the break, Rebecca was in goals and Pittwater were often found near the goal mouth, giving her grief time after time, Rebecca kept her cool and made many great saves; only one lucky Pittwater ball got past.

As the match went on, Pittwater were getting a bit desperate and some pushing earned one of their players a yellow card; the first one we have seen all season!

Right near full-time, a Pittwater goal kick went straight to Jason, who passed to Travis, then on to Alara who made a fantastic kick at goal and scored to seal the match.

We wish the 13-3's luck in the Semi Finals next weekend.

Saturday 7th August 2010
U12 Division 3
Beacon Hill Oval
Beacon Hill 0 v Wakehurst 5

Well where do you start!! With third & fourth place up for grabs between Beacon & Wakehurst a game filled with good play & goals was expected. For the first five minutes Beacons were on fire & should have got the opening goal. From that point the harder the Beacon boys tried the worse they were. Passes to the opposition, miss directed kicks, air swings; you name it Beacons did it. Half time Wakehurst were up 3 nil.

The boys were silent at half time as coach Damian gave the boys a well deserved reality check talking to, after producing the worst half of footy all year. Beacons second half improved slightly with some goal scoring opportunities, but in the end it was not to be their day. The whole team needs to knuckle down & concentrate for next week's makeup wet weather game against Wakehurst & find the great teamwork that they are very capable of & have been playing through the season. Final score 5 nil to Wakehurst.

Player of the Week was Adam, who in a poorly performed Beacon team tried hard up front without much luck. Adam hassled & jockeyed for the ball, but had little support. There were a few opportunities at goal for Adam, but unfortunately no net to be found. Many thanks to U12/4 coach Freddie for the loan of the Quinlan brothers Mitchell & Ryan prior to their own game. Well done to the brothers for their effort.

Millers, Manly Vale
Beacon Hill 1 v St. Augustine's 2

Photo: U13 Division 3 - Beacon Hill v St. Augustine's

The start of the game made both teams out to be very equal, us with a few attacks at goal and the Saints giving Jasper in goals a bit of grief early on. About fifteen minutes into the first half, a long throw in by Jacob found Logan M who got the ball to Jason and with a deft kick into goal, put us on the scoreboard. Incidentally, this was the first time all season that St Augustine's had been behind in any of their matches! St A's responded with a quick goal only moments later. Travis and Abby made some great plays to goal; each attempt was saved by their goalie or kicked clear. Another Saints goal followed just before half time.

After the break, Jacob was in goals and was tested constantly, including a fantastic penalty save that helped earn him the Player of the Match. Great defence by all players during the second half denied St A's the luxury of any more goals. After the match, the St Augustine's coach stated that that was their toughest match of the season!

We look forward to meeting them again during the finals.

Saturday 7th August 2010
U16 Division 2
Millers 3
Beacon Hill 2 v Seaforth 0

The last game of the season saw Beacon Hill play Seaforth at Millers. This was a top of the table clash between the first and second placed teams in the competition. Beacon Hill had not been beaten this season and were looking to finish with a clean sheet. Beacon Hill started well with an early goal to Josh Carlson. This was followed up later in the first half with a well placed penalty goal to Michael Hegarty. Michael, Josh and Josh Malcolm were all playing an excellent offensive game up front allowing Beacon Hill to go to half time with a 2-0 lead.

The second half was a little more physical and the intensity increased with both teams wanting to put their stamp on the result. Beacon Hill had the better of the possession but were put under pressure a couple of times by the Seaforth attack. Cameron, Aaron, Toby, Alex and in particular Auron as goal keeper played great football to keep Seaforth scoreless. It is a credit to Auron and the team that there has only been 5 goals scored against the 16/2's this season.

So in the end it was a well deserved win to finish the main competition games unbeaten for the season. A big thank you to the coaches (Archie and Rosco, of Beacon Hill Premier League fame) and Manager (Mark Malcolm) from all players and parents.
