JUNIOR PRESENTATION DAY 2009

GUEST OF HONOUR WITH AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE...
At the recent Beacon Hill Junior Presentation day, Club founder Ben Love delivered an important message to players and parents.
Mr Love who has just turned 102 years old, gave an address encouraging parents to become involved with volunteer organisations.
Mr Love said that in today's world where people's spare time seems to be limited, they need to consider the best places to spend that available time. Ben's advice was to invest the time in volunteer community activities such as the Beacon Hill Football Club.
Mr Love has spent his lifetime helping other people and creating facilities for the enjoyment of young and old football players.
Ben is pictured above presenting the 'Daniel Love Memorial Trophy' to young Michael Werner for being selected as the club's outstanding player in the Under 9 Striker's Cup competition.

The day was a 'cracker' right through from the weather to the sausage sandwiches and drinks.
Medals and trophies were presented to all teams by Club President Joe Maiolo with the major awards being claimed by the 10/6 boys squad who won their competition and the end of season knockout and the 14/1 girls squad who did likewise.

BEACON HILL U11/2 HAVE A GREAT YEAR

Photo: Beacon Hill FC U11/2
Well the soccer season has come to an end and Beacon Hill U11/2 had a great year.
This team has gone from strength to strength and have come together as a strong and competitive force aided by wonderful coaching and support from Cathie Sweeny, Adam Saez and Maria Pollard.
Throughout the season, Beacon Hill 11/2s had 8 wins, 5 losses and 1 draw.
The scoreline was 36 goals for and 23 against, this resulted in the team being placed 4th in the competition. The team achieved 2nd place in the round robin, beating Mosman and drawing with both CC Strikers and Pittwater earning a place in the GRAND FINALS at Cromer Park!
At the grand final conditions were not ideal providing slippery goal mouths which played into the oppositions favour on more than one occasion. Travis and Liam almost scored the first goal of the match in a nail biting attack at goal which was disappointing for them but a fantastic show of teamwork, Jeremy, in goals, was barraged with attacks from the Mosman team and kept the scores to 0-0 until late in the second half when the opposition managed to break through the rock solid defence of Tom, Tim, Japer and Hayden who throughout the game did a great job in preventing many more attempts at goal.
Mid fielders Harry, Charlie and Isaac did a great job closing down a lot of the oppositions players and supporting our wingers, Sam, Jeremy Lee and Jacob. The only girl in the team Emily was always taking on the boys from Mosman and was one of our leading goal scorers during the season.
A loss in the Grand Final to Mosman A 0-2 ended their grand final victory hopes but they played a fair and competitive game right until the end.
Even though we did not have a win at Cromer Park all the players should be happy with their play not only in the Grand Final but throughout the whole season.
We look forward to the team coming together again in 2009 and further developing their teamwork and spirit.

PL RESERVES IN THE SEMIS
Photo: Michael Vance scores for Beacon Hill FC PL Reserves
against Mosman on Sat 23rd August 2008
For the first time in Beacon Hill's 9 years of Premier League football, the PL Reserves side has made the final four.
The team has finished in equal 3rd position on the table only 2 points behind the winners Brookvale (whom they have beaten twice in the competition rounds).
A loss last Saturday in the final competition round would have resulted in the boys finishing 6th on the table but a nail biting 2 - 1 win over Mosman enabled the boys to secure their position in the final four.
Leading goal scorer Michael Vance scored a cracker mid way through the first half, but then had everyone worried when he missed 2 separate penalty shots, one in the first half and one in the second. With Mosman equalizing early in the second half to make the score 1 - 1, it was starting to look like the dream of making the final four might not eventuate.
But another penalty kick with 10 minutes to go presented the boys with their opportunity to seal the match. This time, Vance delegated the penalty kick duty to Anthony Demasi who calmly slotted the ball over the keepers head and into the back of the net.
The boys were ahead again and held on strongly to record their 12th win for the season and a place in the semi finals.

YOUNGEST EVER

PL 1st Grade against Mosman on Sat 23rd August 2008
To play Premier League for Beacon Hill is every youngsters goal and this season the dream has become a reality for a number of the young men in the club's 16/1 team.
No fewer than 6 have appeared on the bench for the PL Reserves this season, but the dream of running onto the field for the First grade side became a reality for two of these players last Saturday against Mosman in the final round of the PL competition.
PL Coach Buster Brooks requested that Goalie Stuart Gray fill in for the injured Haemish Carroll and mid fielder Farshad Etemadi be a bench player.

Stuart got his chance in the second half of the game and Farshad (who is nicknamed 'Fish') also took the field with 20 minutes to go. Both youngsters acquitted themselves well and will look forward to claiming a permanent place in the squad in the future after a few more games under the belt in the 18's and 21's competition.
Footnote: Farshad is now the youngest Beacon Hill player to play PL first grade at 15 years and 10 months.

STRIKER'S CUP 2008

Back row: Tracy Sewell (Manager) Joshua Tyrell, Callum Lowe, Will Carter, Isaac Blunden, Matthew Brewster, Ned Hole, Dave Wilson (Coach)
Front row: Alexandra Russell, Ethan Pollard, Jack Wood, Bailey Sullivan, Justin Chi, Daniel Horton,
Absent: Mathew Macdougall and Ryan Banks
Striker's Cup 2008 started with recruiting Dave Wilson (last years premier coach) and Ian Church. Both gave their time to coach and guide 14 young talented players. Initially the boys played a friendly against CC Strikers, (this years eventual winners). Considering the small amount of preparation the 1-0 loss was a great result. We must acknowledge the Beacon Hill 10-3 team who we played on a number of occasions leading up to the Gala Day. This additional training against older and bigger boys gave our young team the opportunity to get some much needed match play.
Congratulations to everyone involved for all their efforts and support. It's not about if you win or lose. It is about how you win or lose that makes champions. I am sure you would all agree that we have fourteen champions amongst us.
A big thank you must go to all the parents who supported the boys through the cold evenings and added great support on the 'Cup' day. The effort you all made to ensure the boys wanted for nothing on the day. The food and drink provided was fantastic, Well done to all.
To our Sponsor: Adstream. The kids looked great and loved the Strikers Cup Jumpers that they needed on a very cold morning.
THANK YOU!
The efforts of all was justly rewarded on seeing the boys run out on Cromer 1 against Avalon, with parents and friends sitting proudly in the grandstand and cheering the boys on to a hard fought draw. Our next games were against 2 fantastic teams, both made the last 8 and 1 actually playing in the final against CC Strikers.
I'm sure that we will see a lot of these young players develop into exciting players in the years to come.

EXHIBITION GAME

Photo: Beacon Hill Ladies U11/1B & Avalon at Cromer Park
Cromer Park No. 1 Sunday 29th June
On Sunday 29th June Beacon Hill's Women's 11/1B played an entertaining exhibition game on Cromer Park No. 1 against Avalon during the half time break of the Women's Reserve Grade match.
On arrival at Cromer Park, the girls were welcomed by Australian representatives Gill Foster (Matildas), Livvy Kennedy (Young Matildas) and Caitlin Jarvie a.k.a Pommie (Australian schoolgirls). Our girls were really excited asking many questions relating to their pathway to representative football and then seeking autographs.
Avalon and Beacon Hill ran onto the field thrilled to be playing on the field in front of the Lucas Neill Stand and had their names announced by the ground announcer. The score was 0-0 with Beacon Hill dominating the attack.
After the game, Beacon Hill and Avalon headed over to Cromer 2 to test their goal scoring skills in a penalty shout-out against Manly United First Grade keeper Alyssa Harris and Under 14 captain Bethany Sweeny. Ashley Quetcher was the winning goal scorer for Beacon Hill and won an autographed soccer ball.

Many thanks to Cathie Sweeny from Manly United for organising this fun event for the girls, encouraging them to strive for their best and aspire to be a football star of the future.

Ladies U14's State Cup aspirations
continue to build...

Photo: Beacon Hill Ladies U14 Division 1 2008
Semi final here we come!
Beacon Hill ladies U14's took another step closer to the State Cup final when on 22nd June when we beat Rooty Hill 1 - 0 in the quarter final.
This was a close match with our goal coming within the first 2 minutes of extra time. A hearty well done to our goal scorer Steph Zervos who was finally rewarded for the patience and determination displayed during the match.
Whilst the score board tells a story of a very close encounter the reality was that we dominated both possession and territory and were the much better team on the day. Beacon could have bagged a hand full of goals during normal time but couldn't find the back of the net. We hit the cross bar (Lori a great strike deserving a goal) from a free kick amongst several other near misses from our strikers and midfielders. Keep pressuring and believing that you can do it girls - the goals will come.
Our strength came from rock solid defence. In steadily strengthening and difficult winds our back four led by Casey continually closed down and repelled the Rooty Hill attackers all match.
Every one played their part in the match and all the girls should feel proud to have contributed to getting another Beacon Hill team into the semi finals.
Again, well done girls.
Unfortunately our Ladies Under 16's went down 1 - 2 to Miranda Magpies in what is understood to have been a tough and physical match. Well done to the 16's ladies in reaching the quarters.
The semi final against Hurlstone Park will be held on 6th July at Valentine Park.

Beacon Hill's new style PL strip

Photo: Beacon Hill Premier League team with new playing strip donated by Rhino Sports
Last Saturday against Narrabeen, Beacon Hill's Premier League christened their new playing strip supplied by sponsor Darrell Novaro from Rhino Sports.
The subtle shirt change ( no collar and sublimation styling ) is the first alteration to the playing strip since the current strip was introduced in the year 2000. Playing shorts also have a change and now show the Rhino Sports and Beacon Hill logo on the legs.

Photo: Steve Calci - youngest person to score a goal for Beacon Hill's Premier League!
Steve plays striker in Beacon Hill 16 Division 1 side and last Saturday afternoon found himself being asked to sit on the PL Reserves bench against Narrabeen along with Farshad Etamadi and Matt Koopman.
With Beacon Hill well in charge of the match at 3-0 with 10 minutes remaining, Coach Moore injected the 3 sixteen year olds into the match.
After the boys took the field, Mark Femia's right foot slider made it 4-0 and with 3 minutes remaining, Steve (pictured on the right) found the net himself to create a little bit of Beacon Hill history.

State Cup Journey for U14 Girls
On Sunday 22nd June our U14 girls play their State Cup quarter final against Rooty Hill at Belfield.
Last season saw the U14's progress to the State Cup final for a narrow loss (golden goal). This years' team however comprises a very different look with only three full time players from that team plus two regular reserves from the 14-2's backing up. The balance of the squad of 13 came from various Beacon teams plus a few new Beacon players.
The new team has worked hard under Vince Vescio's guidance and has taken up from where last years' U14 left off.
Our first State Cup game against Horsley Park was a comprehensive 12-0 win. The second match provided a comfortable 3-1 win against Mosman.
We have already encountered Rooty Hill this year having played them in a trial match, our first game as a new team. We took out the result of the trial so with a bit of luck and the right attitude we should get the result.
The MWFA competition is also progressing well with the team registering 6 wins and 2 draws, placing Beacon on top of the table, which is arguably the toughest association in Sydney.
Keep up the good work girls, support each other and you should go far this season.

BEACON HILL WOMEN U16 DIVISION 1

State Cup Journey for U16 Girls
The 2008 Women's U16 Division 1 team contains a nucleus of players from the State Cup winning side of 2006. This year the girls are undefeated after eight rounds of the MWFA competition and two rounds of State Cup.
This team is strong right across the park, with lots of speed and devastating strike power up front. In eight rounds of the local comp they have scored 37 goals and conceded only 3, and in two games of State Cup have a 10-1 record. Coach Paolo Sussanna believes this years team is even stronger than the 2006 side. "The way the girls are playing at the moment, I believe they are capable of anything. We still have a long way to go, but if they can remain focused they should have a very successful year."
This Sunday, 22 June, the team travels to the Harry Dening Centre at Kareela for what promises to be a tough match against the unbeaten Sutherland side, Miranda Magpies. A win will see the side into the semi final of the Cup.

BEACON HILL U16 DIVISION 1

State Cup Action
On the 18th May at Kelso Park, Panania, the Beacon Hill boys 16/1's chalked up a Round 2 victory with a nail biting Penalty shot decider over Revesby Workers.
Beacon's exciting open brand of play stunned the 2007 Bankstown District Premiers and with a rock hard defence, Revesby struggled to make any kind of impression.
Shots on goal were a rarity in this game, but with 25 minutes to go a Revesby foul in the box bought a chance at a Penalty kick. Matt Koopman confidently slipped the ball into the left corner of the net to give the boys the lead, but moments later Revesby equalized at the other end of the field. Both sides' defences tightened again and the match eventually finished at 1-1.
Penalty shootouts are mostly nail biting affairs and this one was no exception as Beacon slipped behind, drew level and then went ahead to win thanks to some confident shooting and a great save by goalie Stuart Gray.
Photo: Closely Marked
Round 3 of the State Cup saw the boys at home against Bossley Park. Again, another exciting end to end game with both sides having their chances to put this one away. But at the full time whistle the scorer hadn't been troubled and the match went into extra time golden goal. Seven minutes into the first period Bossley Park finally got one through Beacon's defence and the match was over.
Coach Jones was full of praise about his team's gutsy performance with all the boys giving 100% in true Beacon spirit. Injuries and a key player missing made this performance worthy of a standing ovation from the crowd that witnessed the game.
Photo: 16/1s Filling in for Premier League Reserve Grade
Footnote: The Beacon Hill 16/1's were formed this season and are the first Division 1 side to represent this particular age group since 2003. They are currently holding 4th position in the strong Manly Warringah Football Association's competition. Four of the players also hold the unique record of having been the youngest ever player to take the field for Beacon Hill in Premier League when they filled in for the PL Reserves to replace absent or injured players last month.
BEACON HILL U7 SHARKS

Photo: Beacon Hill U7 Sharks in action
The Sharks are a team made up of boys from four different schools - Cromer, Oxford Falls, Narraweena & Beacon Hill. Most of the boys have played together for two seasons now and have become great mates.
We've had two excellent additions to our team this year, Darcy, who's fitted in well and playing some great soccer. Our Scottish import Liam who's living up to his heritage.
Of our original team members, Lincoln & Thomas are really contributing to the team and loving their soccer this year. Nathan's big clearing kicks have started many a shark raid. Zack takes his soccer very seriously and his enthusiasm for the game shows every week. Jayden, our youngest is also our most fearless, he constantly puts his body on the line. Daniel always has fun on the field and is always very protective & supportive of his team mates.
Last but not least our coach Stephen, who deserves a medal for his patience and constant encouragement for our boys.
BEACON MUMS SHOW COMMITMENT!

Where would you expect to find the Mums of Beacon Hill at lunchtime on Mothers Day?
On the soccer field of course! The Beacon Hill Ladies Over 35 Division 1 team showed their commitment to team and club with all 15 team members at Abbott Rd reserve for the 1p.m kick off against Curl Curl on Mothers Day. The kids were there in support too, from 12 month old Grace Harris to Year 12 student Sean Hallett. It was a tough game but plenty of fun was had and the team enjoyed celebratory champagne and nibblies after the game. This team formed in 2003 and have always been very competitive, making the semi finals 4 of the previous 5 seasons.
