12/09/08: Warringah Council Elections
About five years ago when the Beacon Hill Sports fields were under threat to be sold by Landcom, Sam Danieli in collaboration with a sub committee set up by the football club, set about saving the fields so that the community would enjoy this amenity for years to come.
Sam and the sub committee were successful and many in the community are using the Sporting Fields today.
Because of Sam's efforts and attitude to providing sporting amenities for the benefit of the community over the years Beacon Hill Football Club supports Sam for Mayor of Warringah.

28/07/08: Ladies U14's State Cup Final Report
The ladies Under 14-1s had to get to the State Cup final to suffer its first defeat of the season.
In a very close and tight match the Beacon girls lost to the Georges River team 1 - 0.
It was a match that could have gone either way and was a game that both teams can be proud to have been a part.
The match was played in a wonderful spirit and went from end to end and back again, all game. We started slowly and unfortunately let a goal in mid first half.
We had scoring opportunities to score in both halves but the Georges River defence was rock solid and as quick as lightning. This was clearly the best team we have played against all season and was a worthy finalist.
The entire second half and especially in the closing stages of the match saw the Beacon girls mount attacking raid after raid but we simply couldn't get the required shots on goal to equalise.
Coach Vince and Manager Phil, plus all of the parents and supporters, were all immensely proud of all the girls for the manner in which they played, never giving up until the final whistle, the spirit in which they have conducted themselves all season and the sportsmanship displayed in defeat. Well done girls.
Our next goal is to keep winning in the MWFA competition and work towards a possible re-match in the Champions of Champions tournament.

28/07/08: Summer 6-a-Side

BEACON HILL SUMMER 6 A SIDE
We will be running our own club 6 a side tournament during the off season.
The competition is expected to be 8 teams of 7 players per team that will be graded from Premier League through to under 18's. Each team will have an equal number of seeded players from each section of the club, ie: 2 Prem, 2 al, 1 x 21, 1 x 18, 2 Over 35. This may vary depending who registers.
Each seeded section will be drawn out of a hat to allow for 8 equal teams.
The games will be played on the ¾ field at the high school and we will have official referees. The games will be played over 30 minutes with unlimited interchange.
We will have 4 games per night with games starting at 6pm, 6.35pm, 7.10pm & 7.45pm with the last game ending at 8.15pm. We would play on Tuesday or Wednesday nights during October and November with the semi final and final played on the same night at the beginning of December.
If a team player is unavailable to play in a game a player of the same seeding or lower may be borrowed from another team. A draw and league table will appear on the website during the competition.
A cost of $25 per player will apply. This will cover the refs and trophies for the winners along with a sausage sizzle on the finals night.
If anyone wants to enrol please leave your name and team you play with at the canteen. Rose will have the list. Please let us know early to enable a smooth competition.

14/07/08: Ladies U14's State Cup Semi Final Win
On 6th July our courageous and gallant Ladies Under 14's again got the right result against the Hurlestone Park Wanderers to gain entry into the Soccer NSW State Cup final.
We won the semi final match 3 - 2 in extra time (golden goal). The score line was close however the Beacon girls were the best team on the day and thoroughly deserved the win.
Scores were locked at nil all at half time. Our girls came out firing from the restart and with constant pressure and territory we scored with a good goal from Avril after about 10 minutes. We continued to press the Wanderers goal and against the run of play we had an equaliser scored against us.
With only around 8 minutes left the Wanderers got a direct free kick just outside the box and despite our goalies best efforts the well struck shot just went under the cross bar. Thanks to Laura Bombara from the 14-2's for stepping up to being our goalie.
We were now down 2 - 1 and racing against the clock.
This is where this group of girls demonstrated what really makes them special. The whole team has fantastic determination, focus and heart. We played the entire final minutes camped in their half and with constant and relentless pressure from sweeper to striker we got the equaliser with a good shot from just outside the box by Loredana with only a few minutes left.
The extra time period produced more fantastic commitment from the girls and with about 7 minutes gone Loredana again put the ball into the top right corner of the goal to give us the result. Needless to say the Beacon supporters went crazy.
Standout performances during the match were our centre mids, Loredana (two goals and a tireless effort) and Aorianna (who was inspirational) with everyone and I really do mean everyone, a very close second.
This is a team that plays good football in the right spirit and are a credit to the club, their parents and themselves. Congratulations to coach Vince Vescio on getting to the final two years running.
Special thanks to the fantastic supporters on the side line. I am sure that the girls took additional energy from your cheering. I know it made a big difference.
The STATE CUP FINAL against Georges River FC will be held on 20th July at Valentine Park.

27/05/08: Take That Tape

As footballers we often use electrical tape to keep our boots tight, hold shin pads in place and to support injuries.
This tape is not biodegradable.
Did you know if you leave your used tape behind after a game, it becomes an issue for the environment?
The grass is cut and the tape is sliced into small pieces and then washed into the creeks and lagoons.
It slowly poisons the water and can kill fish as well as birds.
So don't leave your used tape behind!

15/05/08: BHFC Strikers Cup Team Squad
It was very difficult to select the team as all the trialists were all of a high
standard, however, we could only take 14 players.
I can understand that some people will be disappointed to miss out as all
were able to represent our club. I thank them all for trialling and know we
will see them develop into fine footballers as the years go on.
Please remember that they are only young and have plenty of time.

20/04/08: Vanuatu Football Boot Collection

Dear Football Supporter
As you would be aware I have been collecting footy boots to send to East Timor and Vanuatu for 8 years now. Unfortunately the collection this year has been the poorest on record (less than 100 pairs of boots).
Given that we have over 17,000 registered players in Manly Warringah I would think that at least half of them bought new boots this year. So where are those 8,500 pairs of boots?
Please deliver any good quality and clean boots, shin pads, shirts and sox, to the BHFC canteen by 3 May 2008. The club will then deliver them to Global Self Storage at Clearview Place, Brookvale. Cisco Systems Australia, the computer people, are picking up the tab for sending the gear to Vanuatu.
This is a small ask which will bring enormous joy to hundreds of kids who could never afford to buy footy boots.
Thanks for your support.
Brian Dunphy
15/04/08: Match Start Times
Some comments coming back about Junior Start Times being 10 minutes ahead of last years, eg 8.20am instead of 8.30am.
This is to allow the ID Cards to be thoroughly checked and an early start to fit in with Seniors ID Checks in the pm.
Seniors will have to be ready for such as 1pm match by 12.50pm to do their ID Checks.
All ID Checks will be done mid pitch (half-way line). Please ensure the correct procedure is followed. MWFA members will be doing spot checks all season and those teams defaulting on the correct procedure will be debited any winning points and both team debited 3 points from their season winning points.
DO NOT DEFAULT!!!! CHECK ID'S THOROUGHLY!!!!!
