04/01/11: Vale Mr Ben Love, OAM

VALE MR BEN LOVE, OAM

It was with much sadness I had to inform you of the passing, last Thursday, of local icon, our Beacon Hill Youth Club Founder, Life Patron and Life Member, Mr Ben Love OAM, at the RSL Veterans' Village at Wheeler Heights.

Ben was in his 104th year and, until recently, took a hands-on approach to ensuring that the Beacon Hill Youth Club, founded by him, with several keen friends, in 1964, was at the forefront in the provision of both indoor and outdoor activities for, primarily, the youth of Beacon Hill and the surrounding districts.

As President of Beacon Hill Youth Club for the past nine years, Life Member, Committee Member and member since 1980, I have been pleasantly involved with Ben as he worked for the youth. Ben was awarded the title of Life Member and Life Patron by his fellow BHYC members some years ago. Also, a couple of years ago he received the 'Medal of the Order of Australia' (OAM) for his services to the youth of the local area.

We all have looked forward to Ben's words of wisdom especially at his beloved Gymnastics Section's or Football Section's Annual Presentations. Up until quite recently, Ben had an active role in exhorting parents to volunteer to assist our youth and had words of wisdom for recipients at the Presentations.

All our Sections (which are sometimes called 'Clubs' by us as these are so big, eg Beacon Hill Football Club – the Football – Soccer Section) will be at a loss with the passing into history of such a passionate man. Ben will be missed by thousands he has influenced since the BHYC's inception in 1964, due to his tireless endeavour, with the assistance of his compatriots, such as Mr Ron Oughtred, BHYC Life Member and Life Patron.

Ben's Funeral will be held in the Montgomery Centre, RSL Veterans' Village, starting at 2pm, Thursday 6th January, 2011. See Manly Daily tomorrow. Please feel free to contact me anytime for further details.

Rest in Peace, Mr Ben Love, OAM.
We, who have known you, will all miss you!!

Tony Davies, President – Beacon Hill Youth Club

29/03/10: Coaching Clinic a Big Success

Beacon Hill Football Club's first Coaching Clinic for the 2010 Season was held on Sunday 28 March.

The 19 coaches, ranging from U6 Sub Juniors to U16 Juniors who attended were shown many skills including:

- hook turns;
- body position for defending;
- step over;
- 1 vs 1 when shooting;
- after training/match warm down;

Plus many other ways to keep a team of players occupied throughout their weekly training session.

Many thanks to Mark Gale for an informative 2 hour session and Dave Wilson for assisting.

Thank you also to the Beacon Hill Boys who demonstrated the many activities at the Clinic:
- Rhys Deegan
- Luke Kerrigan
- Ryan Kerrigan
- Oli Major-Mills
- Luke Reid
- Ben Wanders
- Adam Warriner
